Also rising with the temperature are new customer discounts on key law office software such as Time Matters and PCLaw and existing customer discounts on Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) renewals.
The big software news this month is the release of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11. This best-of-breed speech recognition program gets better with each version. Join us on Thursday, August 19, 2010 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT, for a free webinar introducing NaturallySpeaking 11. And if you act during the introductory period, discounts on NaturallySpeaking 11 are available.
NaturallySpeaking works great with Microsoft Word. But whether or not you use NaturallySpeaking, you will want to make sure your options and settings in Word are configured for maximum law office productivity. We have suggestions on how to do that, plus tips for Word 2007 and 2010. In addition, we bring you our regular newsletter features. Included is the Amicus Attorney Tip of the Month, Green Corner, and our complete Affinity University schedule for August. |

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Coming - Get Your Discount Now
Nuance, the makers of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, announced last week that they are launching the latest version of their award winning speech recognition software this month. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Version 11 has been improved yet again, with a variety of new and improved features, including increased accuracy. Nuance reportedly wants users to know that Dragon 11 will "give people a voice to perform almost any task on the computer - to create documents, send e-mails, surf the Web, search Facebook and Twitter and interact with their favorite applications - at speeds up to three times faster than typing." Many of us here at Affinity Consulting Group use Dragon NaturallySpeaking in house on document creation, e-mail, and much more. We have been exceedingly pleased with our beta testing of Dragon 11 and its new features. There are a variety of new time saving commands or "voice shortcuts", and navigating your computer by voice is much easier. Training time is reduced and creating a user profile is faster and easier than any prior version. See the new features during a live free webinar on Thursday, August 19, 2010 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT. Amicus Attorney Tip of the Month - Amicus Merge Docs
Most firms have more than their fair share of Document Assembly tasks in their everyday workflow. This
can range from the Standard Fax Cover sheet that must be edited over
and over again to court documents that must be created for every case. With that being said, it makes perfect sense to leverage the tools that you have at your disposal to increase productivity. Read the Amicus Attorney Tip of the Month.

Adjusting Your Option Settings in MS Word
Lawyers (and most professionals and support staff) use many software applications, but most of us we "live" in Microsoft Word for a good portion of the day - and sometimes well into the evening. Because we spend so much time working in Microsoft Word, it makes sense to set up Word to work the way we want it to. Unfortunately, too many users blindly accept Word's default settings although those settings were not necessarily designed for optimal law office use. This month we provide you with a few Word Option settings you should consider when creating or editing legal documents. Read the complete Word options article. |
MS Word 2010 Tip of the Month - Using the AutoComplete Feature
The AutoComplete feature in Word 2003 was a fantastic shortcut to insert
boiler plate text. Once boiler plate text was created as an AutoText entry,
Word would insert it in the document after the user typed the first few letters
of the AutoText entry and hit the ENTER key. In Word 2007, Microsoft removed AutoComplete much to many lawyers'
dismay. Fortunately, the AutoComplete feature returns in Word 2010. We show you how to use it in our Word 2010 Tip of the Month. Read the MS Word 2010 Tip of the Month. |
MS Word 2007 Tip of the Month - Setting Your Default Paste Options
Lawyers often create new documents using text from existing documents, web pages, PDF files, etc. Copy and Paste is a large part of our daily routine. But are we copying and pasting efficiently? Probably not, unless our Word paste options are properly set. Read the MS Word 2007 Tip of the Month.

Green Corner - How Green is My Law Firm?
Although published almost two years ago, a report on running a "green" law firm by Rachael Loper and Robert Loper for the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) offers a great roadmap for assessing and improving your law firm's environmental impact. The report highlights "green targets," which are areas any law firm should examine when trying to become more green. The targets are Paper, Energy, and Waste. The report contains great strategies for improving your firm's performance in each target area.
