Program Manager's Message |
Congratulations to the cities honored today, June 30, at a recognition workshop and luncheon by the Energy Efficiency Partnership of South Bay Cities Council of Governments/South Bay Environmental Services Center, Southern California Gas Company and Southern California Edison. The Partnership assists cities in the facilitation of implementing energy efficiency projects in order to reduce energy use, costs and to reduce GHG emissions.
Between 2010 and June 2011, cities achieved energy savings through SCE's Energy Leader Program included Value Level, Carson, Manhattan Beach, Inglewood, Redondo Beach and Torrance; Silver Level - El Segundo, Hermosa Beach and Lomita; and Gold Level - Hawthorne. The Value, Silver and Gold cities received incentives, certificates and accolades for a job well done. A total of 937,904 kWh has been saved and over $135,751 in rebates and incentives earned by the cities through the Partnership. That is the equivalent of reducing CO2 emissions from 1,504 barrels of oil consumed! Other South Bay cities expect to have even more savings to report next quarter.
It pays to take advantage of all our programs at the South Bay Environmental Services Center. Homeowners: see information in this issue about Operation Lamp Exchange coming in August and the jumbo rebates up to $6,000 for Energy Upgrade California, good until Labor Day. Visit our website today and see how your city, your home or your business can Save Water, Energy, Money and the Environment www.sbesc.com

Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County Looking Ahead to 2050
The Clearwater Program is the Sanitation Districts' new facilities planning effort that looks at the future infrastructure and wastewater management needs for the Joint Outfall System through the year 2050. The Clearwater Program Master Facilities Plan will ensure the continuation of the wastewater system's high level of service, provide the ability to serve Southern California's growing population, evaluate aging infrastructure, and help Sanitation Districts's facilities to continue meeting state and federal environmental regulations. A new tunnel and ocean outfall to convey effluent from the Districts' largest treatment plant to the ocean is evaluated as part of the new Facilities Plan. Find Out More About the Clearwater Program

L.A. Metro
Think "carpool". Then think bigger.
Vanpools are similar to carpools, but they involve more people, bigger vehicles and longer commutes. Add bigger savings: you will spend less on fuel, give your own vehicle a rest, and increase quality time during your commute. Don't forget the monthly subsidy of up to $400 to qualified vanpools. It's a no-brainer!
According to Metro, there are 237 miles of carpool lanes in Los Angeles, so why waste time in traffic?
To schedule a Vanpool meeting at your business, or would like a copy of a beautiful brochure that says all of the above and more, call SBESC at (310) 371-7222 and ask for either Martha or Grace.
