Get your calendars out.  You don't want to miss our annual Operation Lamp Exchange that we conduct each year with our partner Southern California Edison. It's scheduled for September 18th and 19th to exchange up to 10 energy guzzling old lamps for up to 10 brand new energy efficient ones!  It will be conveniently located in Torrance in the K-Mart parking lot.  See our calendar section for more details.

Good news for schools - with our new technical staff on board and our partners Southern California Gas Company and Southern California Edison, we will be visiting our local South Bay School Districts looking for energy savings. Helping schools reduce their costs means more funds for the classroom!

Interested in a healthy home? Take advantage of our Fall residential workshop and sign up for "Whole House Energy Upgrades for Remodeling" workshop.  The new whole house concept shows you how your home works together as a system. Make it work for you and Save Water, Energy, Money and the Environment.

Energy Upgrade California, in Los Angeles County
The upcoming residential energy efficiency program Energy Upgrade California in Los Angeles County (EUC in LA) is gearing up this Fall to enable homeowners to take advantage of sizable rebates for energy upgrades such as weatherization and duct sealing among other measures. The program aims to encourage homeowners to undertake a systematic approach to improving their homes energy efficiency. Rebates of $1000 and higher will soon be available for homeowners...(click here)

Only a Few Days Left to See if You Qualify for  $1,500 Credit
Southern California Edison (SCE) and Southern California Gas Co. (The Gas Company) encourage customers experiencing financial hardship to apply for assistance through a new program called Temporary Energy Assistance for Families...(click here)

Ever Considered Looking into Electric Vehicles?
You'll want to hear this: SCE just launched a web page that let's you go online and get an estimate of how much an electric vehicle will change your power bill. The Plug-in Car Rate Assistant is available at www.sce.com/pev.
Edison customers provide information such as location, type of vehicle, mileage and time of day the car will be used. The calculator will provide an estimate of monthly electric bills, as well as a comparison to the cost of gas. The website also includes educational videos about what it takes to become "plug-in ready."

The Gas Company and SBESC Helping South Bay Schools Save Money

The SBESC and its partners have been systematically helping our municipalities achieve hard energy savings. Now, in addition, a concerted effort will be spent helping our school districts achieve Therm savings. Energy savings gained and rebates applied will translate into healthier school budgets. Speaking of Schools...
This Summer West Basin Municipal Water District sponsored four South Bay high schools in the Solar Cup 2010 Boat Building and Racing Competition. Hats off to City Honors, Environmental Charter, Palos Verdes Peninsula, and West Torrance high schools and thanks to West Basin for helping our students in their quest to make advancements in energy efficiency as well as water conservation.

Save Time, Money and Aggrevation: Vanpool

Continuing to build momentum, the pilot-project between the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), through the SBESC, and L.A. Metro has hit its one-year mark. The program outreaches to cities, multi-tenant buildings, business parks, and major employers about the benefits of vanpooling.  As a result numerous vanpool formation and information meetings have been held in business parks and local employers throughout the South Bay, with the most recent vanpool forming at Northrop Grumman in Carson...(click here).

Kudos to Manhattan Beach!
In their commitment to reducing city-wide diversion of solid waste, the Manhattan Beach City Council, on the recommendations of their Environmental Task Force, has significantly strengthened their Request For Proposal and Franchise Agreement for their next solid waste hauling contract. In fact, they want to significantly exceed the state AB 939 en route to their ultimate goal: "Zero Waste."
