Growing through Conflict
Learning to address problems
"Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict." William Ellery Channing
Spring is just around the corner so it's time to get ready for growth - which is often the result of successfully managing conflict in your life.
Ugh! Grrr! Fist clenched. Body tense.
Do you remember that feeling you get when faced with a conflict you'd just assume avoid? You know you have to do something, but your body is preparing you for fight or flight.
Conflict can be difficult to manage. And, too often conflicts are avoided or not dealt with in a timely manner which can result in explosive situations that end in disaster.
At Peace Learning Center we understand how difficult conflict can be to overcome. Yet, we also believe conflict can lead to incredible growth when handled correctly.

Have you ever experienced conflict in your workplace? That's a rhetorical question! Unless you work in a Utopia (perhaps a place filled with chocolate) you've probably experienced a bit of workplace drama at some point.
If you would like to learn how you can effectively manage workplace conflict, plan to attend our March 13th Leadership Series event, "Techniques for Successfully Managing and Resolving Conflict", led by our guest facilitator, Debra Jarvis.
During this highly interactive session, you will learn practical tools and scripts to...
- Defuse tense situations
- Effectively manage difficult conversations
- Turn conflict into creative problem solving opportunities
To make the session even more beneficial, attendees are encouraged to bring a conflict situation example with them to work on during the session.
Register today if you'd like to gain these skills AND learn how you can grow your business and yourself through conflict.

Latino Youth Collective Receives "Power of Peace" Award The Latino Youth Collective accepted the "Power of Peace" award during Peace Learning Center's Annual Martin Luther King Community Festival. The award was given to honor their incredible work in peace and justice in our Indianapolis community. Not only do they help educate Indiana about our rich and vibrant Latino community through film, art, music and word, they advocate on behalf of those who are being denied their rights to live freely with access to education and services.
Future Teachers Learn Conflict Resolution Strategies IUPUI School of Education students got a break from the lecture hall when their innovative professor, Monica Medina, an expert on Multicultural Learning, brought them to Peace Learning Center for two days of H.I.P.P. (Help Increase the Peace Project) learning and fun. By participating in games and deep discussion, the students learned how to build welcoming communities in their classrooms and manage conflicts by valuing differences. One IUPUI student stated, "What we learned showed us how to create community and an open place for learning." Syrian Leaders to attend Peace Education Session on March 5th Peace Learning Center will host eight Syrian guests, who are part of the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, on March 5th for a Peace Education training workshop. We are excited to have this opportunity which could make a tremendous impact on the lives of millions of Syrian who are struggling to deal with intense conflicts in their country. Peace Learning Center participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program, which is devoted to promoting mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations, for more than five years. |
