FROM THE DIRECTOR

Tim Nation
In times of change and vulnerability, it is sometimes easier to decide what we don't like rather than explore the opportunities of what could be.

While major financial, political, and spiritual challenges face humanity, in this moment each of us have ourselves, families and relationships to draw strength and build community.

It is important to care and work for change in unacceptable situations, however, we must all take the time to relax, breathe, and consider the many wonders life brings us everyday.

We at Peace Learning Center hope you join us for exciting events, experiences, and opportunities this fall - together we can build a community with a place for everyone.

Thank you for being part of Peace Learning Center.

Aaron D. TaylorInternational Interfaith Initiative

October is a busy month for International Interfaith programs at Peace Learning Center.  As we continue to build peace in our community by work with a variety of religious congregations it is encouraging to witness that Indianapolis values interfaith cooperation.  There are several programs throughout the month where you can explore our diverse religious landscape, celebrate a common desire for peace, and participate in discussion about the role of religion in politics.

Sacred Places Tour is an opportunity to visit and learn more about the many faith traditions in Central Indiana.  Each Sunday afternoon In October two congregations will open their doors, provide a tour of their house of worship, and answer your questions about history, traditions, and community activities.  The tour will culminate on November 8 with a Celebration of Interfaith Spirituality with Families and Children at Marian University.  Each of these events is free and open to the public however we ask that you bring a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Interfaith Hunger Initiative.  Click here for a complete schedule.

International Interfaith Initiative is hosting its 3rd Annual Conference on October 8-9 in the Indiana War Memorial.  This year's conference is entitled The Confluence of Faith and Politics and will feature a keynote conversation with two prominent Hoosiers, Reverend Richard and Honorable Lee Hamilton.  Day two of the conference will focus on the Iraqi refugee crisis and feature a keynote address by the president of the Middle East Institute Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin.  These events are free and open to the public, click here for more information.

Finally we are cosponsoring an interfaith luncheon discussion with two religious leaders from Jerusalem.  Muslim Alliance of Indiana's annual conference will feature The Other Peace Process with Rabbi Ron Kronish executive director of the Interreligious Coordinating Council for Israel and Imam Mohamad Zibdeh the Kadi of Jerusalem.  The luncheon is October 23 at the IUPUI Campus Center and is $15 for general admission and $10 for students.  Click here for more information.
