Helping Prevent ACL Injury in Female Athletes with Josh Ortegon, BS, CSCS, Sparq ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are a female athlete or the parent of one, you
should know by now that ACL injuries to female
athletes and its prevention and treatment has been a
hot topic in recent years. Recently I have spent a lot of
time studying how we can help prevent these athletes
from this injury as well as assisting in a "Return to
Play" program with a female (or male) athlete who is
recovering from an ACL injury.

Youth Strength Training with Elise Matthews, CSCS, ACSM-HFI, RKC II ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There has long been debates about the right age to
begin lifting as well as whether lifting too early would
stunt a child's growth and maturity. Clinicians once
considered the fact that a child's growth plates were
still open, a reason to NOT perform any type of
resistance exercise, for fear that weight training would
cause injury to the growing bones. The opposite, in
fact is true.

In the Presence of Champions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please join us in congratulating Bert on bringing
home a victory from the 2007 USA vs. Scotland Team
Challenge August 5 in Newtonmore, Scotland! Teams
were made up of only 5 of the best amateur athletes
from various parts of the United States up against 5 of
the best amateur athletes from Scotland. To top off the
win, Bert was Team Captain, set two field records and
placed 2nd over all!!
Fresh off of his win in Scotland, Bert entered his final amateur competition of his highland games career, the World Am Championships in Minneapolis held at the world's largest Renaissance Festival. Bert delivered an upset by beating the best athletes in the sport, with another string of personal records. This win names Bert the World Champion! Bert will officially turn 'Pro' at Charleston Highland Fest September 15th 2007.
