Family Corner
Welcome to our first Family Corner!

In this issue, we have a great craft idea to share with you that will engage the whole family and promote family time!

Family Craft 'n Fun:
Homemade Sidewalk Chalk

Sidewalk Chalk

(As featured live on CityTV's Breakfast Television on August 21, 2008.)

Items Needed:
  • 1 cup plaster of paris
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp powdered tempera paint (add more as desired for colour)
  • Some type of mold for chalk (i.e., wax dixie cups, egg carton, silicon ice cube trays)
Instructions:
  1. Mix equal parts water and plaster of paris together in a bowl (should be a toothpaste consistency). Once the mixture has dried, remove it from the mold.
  2. Add tempera paint to mixture.
  3. Once paint has been mixed in well, set aside for a few minutes.
  4. Pour the mixture into a mold and allow to dry overnight (drying time varies based on the size of the mold). If once removed from the mold the mixture is still moist, allow to air-dry for another 24 hours.
  5. Go outside and create a masterpiece on your sidewalk - enjoy!

We want to hear from you!

Visitors will also get a glimpse of some Canadian gemstones and discover where the minerals are found in Canada.

Say Farewell to Much More Munsch!

Closing September 1, 2008

munsch_promo_graphicClang, Clang, Rattle-Bing-Bang!!!

Join us before September 1st to  make some final noise with Much More Munsch, our traveling exhibit based on the books of celebrated children's author Robert Munsch.

For the past twenty years, Robert Munsch has created a distinctive method of imagining, developing and telling his stories. His books are the outcome of a dynamic creative process. This 1,200 sq.ft. bilingual exhibit welcomes kids into Robert Munsch's home, encourages them to explore his world and discover their own creative abilities.

Mix and match words, phrases, scenes and sounds and discover the art of storytelling. Perform for your friends and family. Stomp your way to Mortimer's room. Get Thomas into his snowsuit. Create your own cast of characters. Read and hear unpublished stories. It's fiction! It's fun! It's fantastic!

For ages 12 and under.

Included with museum admission.
