"Love the Book" Month and Customer Appreciation Party
We have designated September as "Love the Book" month in honor of books without batteries. In this changing dynamic of how books are published and how people are reading those books, we want to celebrate the great pleasure that comes with reading an actual book.
Perhaps you like to lounge on the couch or back porch, paperback folded in your hands, the spine loosening as you are enveloped further and further by the story flowing from the pages, or, perhaps, you like the sturdy hardcover, perched on your legs as you sip your morning coffee or that nightcap, the smell of the press still lingering as each page turns...either way, there is something special about that experience. Between the artwork and gloss of the front and back covers, there is a nostalgia and age-old simplicity in these books we love so much. Please join us in our celebration of these literary treasures.
We are offering great promotions during September and holding a short short story writing contest, all leading up to the customer appreciation party on September 21. Read more about what's happening at Arches and Back of Beyond below!

Customer Appreciation Party and Raffle!!!
What: "Love the Book" Celebration Party
When: September 21, 2010 at 6pm-9pm
Where: Arches Book Company
Please join us the evening of September 21 for our customer appreciation party. Whether you are a frequent guest in our stores or have frequented our stores in the past, you are part of what makes this store special, and your support gives us the momentum to keep serving you as a proud local, independent bookstore.
The theme for the party is "Black and White," like the color of the printed page. Wear your best or most creative black and white duds...or come dressed as a book...and enjoy food, drink, and friends. You will also have a chance to win great prizes in the raffle.
Raffle prizes include:
-Two $250 gift cards good at all three stores
-Two gift bags full of an array of wonderful items from both Arches and Back of Beyond
-Tote bags and other accessories
There will also be a $25 gift card to the best-dressed party attendee. You can earn entries into the raffle in a number of ways:
-Come to the party!
-one ticket for each $10 amount purchased at the party
-5 tickets for every review sent to the Friendly Reading Corner
or picture sent to Get Caught Reading   (click on the logos for more details)
-one ticket for each purchase over $25 from Sept. 1 until the day of the party
-one ticket per attendance to one of our events in September

Top 10 Reasons Why You Love the Book!
Why do you love the book? Do you feel more connected with the story? Do you love the way reading makes you feel? Do you love the way a book feels in your hands or bag? Do you like the way they look on your shelves? Tell us 1, 2, or 100 reasons why you love the book and we will share them with fellow book lovers. Writing Contest!!!
Calling all writers!! To
celebrate our love of books without batteries, Arches Book Company, Back of
Beyond Books, and ABC and Beyond are celebrating the month of September as
"Love the Book" month.
As part of the month-long
celebration, we are holding a Short-Short
Story Writing Contest. We are looking for fiction that is bold, brilliant,
engaging...but brief and embodies the idea of "Love the Book."
Guidelines:
· Stories must be
1000 words or less
· One manuscript
per person
· Entries must be
typewritten and double-spaced
· Entries must be
original, unpublished material
· Contest deadline is September 12, 2010
Prizes:
·
First place:Free admission into one of the 1/2-day Writing Workshops held October 22, 2010
as part of the Confluence Literary Festival in Moab. Featured authors are Craig
Childs and William duBuys.

Second place:
$40 gift certificate to Arches Book Company/Back of Beyond Books
· Third place:$25 gift certificate to Arches Book Company/Back of Beyond Books

Hell's Backbone Owner's and Chefs Visit Moab in August!

If
you were part of Confluence last year, than you may have met or seen Jen
Castle, one half of the duo from Boulder, UT, who run Hell's Backbone Grill, a
seasonally-oriented, Buddhist-based restaurant located at the Boulder Mountain
Lodge. Not only has the restaurant received national acclaim, but the cookbook
has also received much attention from such notable sources as O Magazine, the
New York Times, and Bill Jamison, award-winning cookbook author.
Please come and enjoy the stories behind this wonderful oasis in small-town,
south-central Utah
and taste some of their wonderful creations.
Jen and Blake will also be the chefs at the Youth Garden Project dinner August
