Books for Troops Program Continuing to Grow!
All of us at Arches Book Company and Back of Beyond Books would like to thank everyone who has helped us send books to the troops in the Middle East. As of Frid ay, August 13, we have shipped 28 boxes of books, each with approximately 20 books inside, for an amazing 460 books. We have also raised close to $250 in donations for shipping costs.
We are now partnering with the National Guard in Blanding, UT, to send books to soldiers from the Moab, Blanding, and Monticello areas. We are still collecting paperback books, donations, and APO addresses.
Again, we appreciate everyone's help and support for this program. We hope it continues to bring some joy to the troops.

Calvin Lee is our Featured Art Walk Artist for September
Who: Calvin Lee, artist What: Moab Art Walk When: Saturday, September 11, 2010, 6-9 PM Where: Arches Book Company, 89 N. Main St.
"Why decorate life with ornaments when you can recreate it with art? Most
representational and abstract art is the pretty stuff you can use to
decorate your living room wall. Rather than just be pretty or
technically proficient, I try to convey a thought or feeling - solitude,
vastness, pilgrimage - through the expressive use of line, space, and
color. I prefer to make the brush dance rather than be compulsive about
detail. There is no perfect beauty without some weirdness in its
pro portion."
We are pleased to have Calvin as our featured artist in Arches Book Company this September. Originally from San Francisco, Calvin is the son of parents who immigrated from China at the age of 12. He grew up working in his parents grocery long before there were Safeways. He is self-taught as an artist, and his work has appeared at the Lucas
Gallery in Telluride, the Metaphor Gallery in Aspen, the Flying Crane
in Frisco, and the Loeb Gallery in Park City. Currently, his work is appearing at the
Artist's Mercantile in Glenwood Springs and the Creator Mundi Gallery
in Cherry Creek.
Meet Calvin Saturday night from 6 to 9 pm at Arches Book Company.
