The Incredible Practice of Patience in Love ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have been programmed to believe that if we
get what we want, we are a success. We want
excitement, change, pleasure, stimulation,
good friends, praise and happy conversation.
We want to go home feeling that we have done
beautifully, that others respect and
appreciate that. This is also what we want
from relationships. When we base our relationships upon these desires, often we get the opposite of what we long for. This is because the very root of our expectations are faulty, usually sprouting disappointment and pain. However, when we establish a relationship on a different basis, plant new roots, there is room for true connection and love to grow. Then we do not have to grasp onto our partners,, fearing change or fearing that the love will fade away. Our relationships are established on a shaky basis when when our search for happiness, comfort, and value is directed towards the external world, in this case, our partner. It is shaky because, while we want everything to stay the same, the external world, including our partner, is constantly changing. That is its very nature. So, to search for stability in a world of changes can only lead to disappointment and sorrow. Sometimes the search for someone out there to love yields someone exciting, but inevitably, both the person and the feelings we have for them change they have to. We interpret this as failure. But there is no such thing as failure in real love. When we judge a person and discard them because they have changed or do not meet a pre-conceived notion we have, we are short circuiting our own ability to find love. When we have the patience to allow for changes and allow time for who the person truly is to be revealed, we will find deeper contentment and ease. There also will be many surprises as we expand the circle of people who may enter our lives. This process requires patience. But without patience we have nothing. Developing patience is at the very heart of our ability to love. Be patient until the choppy waters have stilled and you can see what it is that remains in the midst of change, that which never goes away.. Love without patience is like soup without liquid - impossible to drink. It can even be said that patience is love itself. In the frantic, demanding world patience has been a shadow of the past. We do not allow time for relationship to develop. But patience is greatly needed for true security and love to bloom. It takes time for a person to feel at home in a relationship and reveal who they are. It takes patience to wait for another, to develop true caring and trust. As we learn how to endure deprivation and hardships in relationships, warmth, clarity and flexibility arise. We grow to understand that without the willingness to wait and be patient, nothing real can happen. Life and love happen in a second, and yet it takes preparation to be ready to receive them. Exercise Look at a person who is close to you right now anyone it happens to be. Notice the ways in which you push them away. Stop doing that for a moment. Become aware of what it is they are offering and what they are not. Allow the two of you to be together in whatever way you are. Just be with it all for a little while and let it be fine the way it is. Do the same thing tomorrow with someone else. We discount so many people who are in our worlds, while imagining someone else will make us happy. Spend some time really being with those who are with you right now. Exercise of the Month- Tell The Truth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your life will flourish when it is filled with
gratitude and giving. As we take time to be
aware of
and give thanks for the many blessings we
receive
our days are filled and joyful. Each month we
offer
another exercise to do, which is a way of
giving
thanks, and keeping a grateful mind alive.
We never realize how much the little lies and exaggerations add up, affect our integrity, hurt us and others. Little by little they erode our ability to trust and respect ourselves. A wonderful antidote to this is simple - make a point of telling the truth. This does not mean blaming another, or putting out all your negative feelings and thoughts. It means, check in, be kind and say what is true for you in all situations. Don't lead anyone on, including yourself. Don't promise more than you can deliver. Say what you mean and walk your talk. You have no idea the power and joy this will bring you. |

It truly can be devastating to discover not only infidelity but that we have been lied to by someone we trust. If at all possible, it's important to find out what really happened and why. It's easy to build many scenarios in our minds and certainly to blame ourselves. Find out the facts. Allow him to speak to you..listen to what he says. As you do, you will realize that his behavior says more about him than about you. It is not a reflection of you, but an expression of something inside of him. At a time like this it is helpful to consult with a professional, if possible. It is also helpful to focus on building up your own life and surrounding yourself with positive people, friends and activities that are meaningful to you.
