 Balloon Council Update
Re: California Senate Bill 1499

The California Senate Public Safety Committee met Tuesday, April 08, 2008, in Sacramento, CA, to hear testimony on a bill sponsored by Senator Jack Scott (D- Burbank), to ban the sale of helium-filled metallic balloons! Senate Bill 1499 was approved by a vote of 4 to 0 moving it out of committee and into Appropriations.

The Balloon Council, our legislative "watch dog" for the balloon industry, testified at the hearing calling for more education of the public and balloon sellers on the use of weights on foil balloons and asking for a more restrained way of dealing with the issue.

Dialogue with Senator Scott and The Balloon Council will continue before SB 1499 is heard in Appropriations Committee. TBC will schedule meetings to speak with each Senator personally and go on record in opposition. Economic impact data will alse be presented.

Meetings, calls to action, and attendance at hearings will be announced as needed. TBC will keep us informed on developments.
