Helium Shortages Plague the Industry News of a helium shortage began surfacing in the Fall of 2006. Pipeline pressure problems and plant shutdowns for scheduled maintenance were just a few of the reasons - but the problems were forecast to diminish by early 2007. Instead, reports from helium suppliers across the country indicate that the situation has not improved but progressively worsened. For those in the helium service industry, prices from the major suppliers are doubling and tripling while allocations are being cut in half. Balloon decorators, distributors, and party stores are feeling the effects too with price increases and rationing.
On behalf of the balloon industry,
the IBA is committed to voicing concerns to the Bureau of Land Management and any subsequent government agencies who control the amount of helium being released for production. Your help will be needed in the efforts to raise one voice as we rally support and work together to solve this crisis for our industry. Look for weekly updates on this issue and visit the IBA Web site, " Helium News" for articles and information.
