TI logoTentmakers International (formerly known as TIE) was established in 1989 to "promote and facilitate the tentmaking movement across the world and...provide a forum for networking." (The term "tentmakers" refers to Christians who receive little or no pay for their church work/evangelism; instead, they support themselves working full time in the marketplace.) TI also provides information and resources for tentmaker trainers so they can help vocationally skilled Christians minister cross-culturally worldwide.

This August 12-15, 2010, the second all Africa Tentmakers International Conference will be held at the Dadji Sports Academy in Douala, Cameroon. Attendees from 40 African countries will gather to develop their abilities through training sessions, interactive workshops, worship and prayer as well as learn from each others' experiences.

Partnership in Practice Heading

This Partnership's Vision is...Vision!
CLC Eye Screening Clinic logoIt was Christian Layman Church that first came up with the idea. With millions of Californians without health insurance and CLC with many optometrists as church members...why not offer free comprehensive eye exams and glasses to its Oakland community? So CLC teamed with World Impact, a Christian mission organization serving the urban poor, to organize such an event. Earlier this month the partnership completed its second annual eye screening clinic in West Oakland--a four-day, four-hour event, serving about 500 people of all ages.

Several optical companies helped sponsor the event: Vision Services Plan, Allergan and Topcon. This year St. Martin de Porres School, across the street from World Impact, offered its space for the event so that more people could be accommodated than the previous year. Eighteen optometrists-in-training from the UC Berkley School of Optometry, assisted by 125 volunteers, examined patients at seven stations set up in three rooms.

"The goal is to facilitate this process for this community so that they can start doing it on their own and we can move to different communities," explains Dr. Gilbert Matsuoka, who helped lead the exams.

The partnership is already planning next year's event. "We...have other organizations that want to get involved," says Andrew Huang, event organizer and pastor at Christian Layman Church.

"One Prayer," One Church
One Prayer logoLast month, "One Prayer," an initiative started in 2008 by LifeChurch.tv in Oklahoma, gathered together over 1,200 churches worldwide, campaigning to break denominational barriers, unite believers, share messages and give to the needy.

This year, participating pastors talked "of an unstoppable God and an unstoppable church when united," exploring the theme with their congregations, sharing prerecorded video messages and resources with other churches, and introducing video teaching.

After only three years "the initiative has brought together...millions of Christians...to simply be one church" and helped plant 1,600+ new churches in India, Cambodia, China and Sudan.
