It Takes More Than One Minute to Manage Effectively

Leadership and management are a combination of art and science that are continually evolving. What's vogue today won't cut it two years from now; the in-thing from a decade ago won't work in today's organizational environment.
Even though old notions remain popular about how you can be successful by devoting 60 seconds to setting goals and praising or reprimanding performance, those of us in the trenches of the business world know well that it takes a lot more effort and smarts than you can apply in one minute to manage outcomes effectively. Today, one-minute goals, one-minute praisings and one-minute reprimands by themselves leave so much to chance that they make for three legs of a pretty weak management platform.
