NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Field trips galore, art shows, lectures, and great entertainment are highlights of Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest! Sarvey Wildlife Center from Arlington visits again with live owls, hawks, and eagles and they will present interactive displays about their wildlife rehabilitation work to local school children and the public. New this year are two pre-Bird Fest activities slated for May 8 and 9 (celebrating International Migratory Bird Day).

Martyn Stewart of NatureSound presents this year's Keynote Address. Martyn travels around the world recording sounds of nature. NatureSound's extensive library includes thousands of sounds from birds and other wildlife, soundscapes and morning choruses from around the world, including some from biomes that no longer exist. His work is used in documentaries, movies, and CDs that are included with many books.

Families with young children will enjoy Fledgling Frolics with Mascot Eagle on Saturday at Barn Beach Reserve.

In categories of arts and entertainment, we have a great line-up beginning with a special evening of entertainment and magic on Friday evening by Bird Fest partner, Icicle Arts. Saturday they will sponsor outdoor performances at Bird Fest Central, downtown. Bird Fest will conclude Sunday afternoon with a special "Birdsong Concert" at the Canyon Wren Recital Hall, located at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat.

And of course, there is much, much more!

Bird Fest is a partnership of North Central Washington Audubon Society, Barn Beach Reserve, Wenatchee River Ranger District, Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, North Cascades National Park Service Complex, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Washington State Parks, and Icicle Arts. See our website: www.leavenworthspringbirdfest.com for up to date information. Programs will be available in April at nature centers in the NW and on-line; registration begins April 24 for the IMBD activities, May 1 for Bird Fest events.
