The Empire Builder Begins Service to Leavenworth
Greetings!

Every autumn, nature puts on a brilliant show of color in the NW.  You can now hop aboard the train and take in the dramatic scenery  to Leavenworth.  It's great hiking weather with warm days and cool nights, you will want to relax around a cozy fire.

Fall is also when we celebrate three weekends of Oktoberfest with bands coming from as far away as Germany.  So come enjoy your favorite brew and mouthwatering German food.  Don't forget to take home a crisp box of apples and juicy pears along with freshly picked vegetables from the farmers.

The Great Northern Railroad arrived in 1892 to establish a cross-Cascade Mountains railroad line over Stevens Pass by way of Tumwater Canyon and Icicle was chosen as the railhead.  In 1893, a new town was platted on the Icicle site by the Okanogan Investment Company and was named after its president, Captain Charles Leavenworth. With the railroad came the Lamb-Davis Lumber Company's sawmill and millpond and the town of Leavenworth enjoyed prosperous boom-town years.  In 1922 the Great Northern Railroad moved its roundhouse and headquarters to Wenatchee and rerouted the rail line by-passing Leavenworth.
