Greetings!
corndog

Spring was very exciting and we had a great time at the Sweet Auburn Spring Fest. The Summer promises to be even more exciting as we move towards a new festival that we are involved with. That new event is the CornDogORama Festival (June 26-29). Other events include the 10th Great Atlanta Blues & Music Festival (July 25-27) and The Jus Blues Music Awards (Memphis - August 6-8). At these events you will see seasoned veterans performing as well as home grown new artists. We encourage everyone to come out and support these events.

THE BUZZ - BY WILLIE HUNTER - Black Music Month Focus - Atlanta - The Urban Music Capital Of The World!! Since the beginning of the 1990s - the city of Atlanta is widely known as the third music city of the USA (New York is first, Los Angeles is second). During the month of June each year - the nation observes what is called 'Black Music Month' as established during the Carter Administration during the late '70s. The month celebrates the contributions to American music by Black people.

These contributions include jazz, gospel, hip hop / rap, rock R&B, etc. But the remarkable thing about all of this is that the city of Atlanta has been and still is 'the new music capital of the world'. Lots of artists are coming out of the city as we have anywhere from 8 to 14 recording artists gracing the national music charts during the year. Since all of this began years ago - we have seen such names as TLC, Xscape, Kris Kross, Silk, Arrested Development, Jagged Edge, 112, D4L, Dem Franchise Boyz, Young Ralph, Shop Boyz, Alliance, Outkast, Goodie Mob, Crime Mob, Scrappy, Rocko, Soulja Boy, Lil' Jon & The Eastside Boyz, Lil' Zane, Cierra, Akon, T.I., Freak Nasty, Ludacris, Yung Joc, Boyz 'N Da Hood, JC, Gorilla Zoe, Usher, Jeezy and many others.

We are fortunate in Atlanta to have a rather large community of experienced and new recording artists. Legendary recording artists living in Atlanta in past years and many new artists are such names as Clarence Carter, Theodis Ealey, Curtis Mayfield, Chuck Willis, Duke Pearson, Billy Wright, Willie Hill, Kecia Cole, Kelly Price, William Bell, Kenneth ' Babyface' Edmonds, Antonio 'LA' Reid, Monica, Shawty Lo, Seek, Anthony David, Collective Soul, and many others. In our research of urban music - we discovered that much of Atlanta based rap / hip hop music is played in numerous night clubs in Europe. Congratulations to Atlanta's urban music scene for continuing its role of impacting the world!

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of Caribbean-American Heritage Month is an opportunity to show our appreciation for the many ways Caribbean Americans have contributed to our country.

Caribbean Americans have helped to shape our national fabric with their vibrant traditions and their unique history. They have brightened our lives with the spirit and vitality of their culture. Through strong leadership and pride in their heritage, they have enriched America. In all walks of life, they have contributed their many talents and added to our Nation's development and prosperity.

We especially show our gratitude for the men and women of Caribbean descent who have served bravely in our Armed Forces and those still serving today. These heroes have answered a call greater than self, and we keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

During June, we celebrate and recognize the Caribbean Americans whose determination and hard work have helped make our country a better place.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2008 as Caribbean-American Heritage Month. I encourage all Americans to learn more about the history and culture of Caribbean Americans and their contributions to our Nation.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second. GEORGE W. BUSH

Over the years - the City of Atlanta has become known for its legendary clubs and the many performers who graced its performance stages over the years in such clubs as The Royal Peacock, The Auburn Avenue Casino, Pal's Lounge, The Poincietta Club and more. Artists such as James Brown, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Bobby 'Blue' Bland, B. B. King, Jackie Wilson and others appeared in Atlanta regularly. The 10th Annual Great Atlanta Blues & Music Fest (July 25 - 27) pays tribute to Lotsa of Poppa (now confined to a nursing home) and his brother Rev. Donald High who performs with the Gospel Silvernairs.

Appearing on this year's event are the legendary R&B vocal group - The Drifters - who served to link Fifties rhythm & blues with Sixties soul music. They epitomized the vocal group sound of New York City. Theirs was the sweet but streetwise sound of R&B suffused with gospel influences. The material the Drifters recorded came from a variety of sources, including the songwriting teams of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, and Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Next is the Atlanta based vocal group - The Tams - who are still playing to sell out crowds around the world, have recorded 10 albums and have been performing for 38 years. The Tams have also been featured in Goldmine Magazine and in the Top Of The Pops in Europe.

Other recording artists appearing on the Festival include Tommy Brown, Harvey Scales, The Radio Ramblers, Willie Hill, Chick Willis, T>K> Soul, Al Lindsey, The Sana Blues Band, Deacon Blues, Mudcat, Beverley Guitar Watson, Lola, Fred Bolton, The Brotheren featuring Shirley Diamond, The DJ Blues Band and many more. For more information go to: www.dr-love.com.

Sunday - June 29th - 3:00 PM - is the CD listening party. All artists working on projects and would like to get their music heard and network with other artists or perform at the Festival - come to Strikers Motorcycle Club - 1585 Moreland Avenue. We would like to encourage people to come and support these events and - go to our networking sites and join. This is a great way to network with others and generate support for your project.

Sincerely,

Tom Davis
