HONORING A LOCAL FALLEN HERO! G&H Landscaping is proud to have been asked to be part of "Team Josh". Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges, USMC was born on May 20, 1986. From a very young age he dreamed of becoming a marine, and at age 13, his dream began when he joined the "Young Marines". In 2004, Josh graduated from Ludlow High School, and entered the Marine Corps that Fall. Josh was a leader in everything he put his mind to, and always led his fellow Marines by example. Sadly, on May 20, 2010, while on his 2nd Tour of Duty in Afghanistan, Josh was killed in action. As a result of the hard work and contributions of many, there is now a Memorial dedicated to Josh, which is located behind the Ludlow High School, and is a fitting and beautiful tribute for such a special young man who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. To continue to honor Josh's memory, there has been a Scholarship Fund set up through generous contributions and the sale of coffee mugs. If you are interested in joining us in supporting this effort in Josh's memory, PLEASE contact our office and we will be sure to deliver this beautiful commemorative mug to you. The donation is $20.00 per mug. Please be sure not to pass by Ludlow High School without turning down Sgt. Desforges Way to pay your respects to Josh for his service to each and every one of us for the freedom we greatly enjoy!

SPRINKLER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Reminder - be sure to adjust your sprinkler system for seasonal weather changes. The hot, dry days are soon approaching, and it will be time to increase your run times and well as step up your frequency to daily watering. If you had a new seeding this spring, change your run times to only water one time per day in the early morning, instead of multiple runs. Deeper, infrequent watering during the early morning is preferred. DID YOU KNOW? Do it yourself sprinkler repairs could be costing you money!!! Many homeowners decide to repair and replace sprinkler heads with discount, over the counter products. In fact, replacing sprinkler heads with "non-compatible" parts, heads and nozzles, could be throwing the entire system out of balance. Systems are carefully designed with exact watering in mind. If you install a new head with improper nozzle sizing, it will cause either over or under watering, ultimately eliminating any and all efficiency. You should always have your system professionally repaired and serviced regularly. Our "Summer Inspection Service" is designed to assure that your system is running at peak performance. |
LAWNS...
Continue fertilizing, controlling weeds now. Problems to come when the temperatures start heating up are surface feeding insects. Knowing the pests and treating correctly is the smart approach. Be on the look out for diseases. "Red Thread" is still a problem due to the cooler, overcast days. As the humidity increases, "Leaf Spot" disease will be encouraged. Be sure to: increase mowing height to 3 - 3 1/2"; keep mower blade sharp; mow often; adjust watering habits; continue balanced fertilizer program. Call us if you have any questions!

SHRUB/TREES/FLOWERS...
Now is the time to be on the look out for pests attacking your valuable trees, shrubs and flowers. Use a broad spectrum insect control with a miticide for late spring and summer treatment of your valuable plants. Be sure to read label instructions! Fertilize your annual/perennial gardens and containers. You can fertilize weekly with a water soluble fertilizer, or for long term feeding, using "Osmocote" fertilizer will provide several weeks of slow release fertilizer for your plants. Either way, your plants need the fertility to keep on producing new blooms.
PRUNING AND TRIMMING YOUR SHRUBS... Now is the time to start your trimming. The rule of thumb is prune flowering shrubs just after they bloom. Other shrubs can be trimmed after they harden off and are done producing new growth. Usually July, August and September. If you trim too early, it won't hurt the plants, but you will most likely need to re-trim them later when new growth emerges.
We offer complete shrub and tree care programs, as well as trimming services. We would be happy to provide you with more information and pricing. CALL US TODAY! |
