Uncommon Bond Novel - A Life Changer!

Anyone who has ever loved and lost will understand the essence of this book! For me, it was an early love which was later, sadly lost. Quite by chance, and more than three decades later we were once again united through long distance. Our regular and lengthy conversations have helped us realize that we still care for one another and that the passage of time did not erase the feelings we once held.

For most of my adult life I had quickly pushed aside any feelings of that early love, thinking that it was wrong. I felt guilty and often fell victim to self loathing. "Uncommon Bond" helped me uncover those feelings, and most importantly, feel validated for the love I still feel deep in my soul.

Words cannot express the joy I felt in learning that it is OK to express these feelings and to allow myself to feel the joy of loving again. Thanks to C.L. Gillmore for bringing this type of joy and love back into my life through Rose and Jake.

In the final season of my life I feel comfort and fulfillment in knowing that my personal journey has brought me full circle back to my precious love of so long ago.  IBE, Amazon Review, 2/13/12

"Poetry in Emotion"

Gillmore has used the layers of her life experience to put into rhyme a blend of what it is like to love both in a romantic way and in a selfless way as a teacher of children with special needs. It is a nice companion book to her novel,

UNCOMMON BOND. I read both of them and highly recommend them especially to women who came of age during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She has captured the tone of her generation very well.

Greetings!

As I thumbed through several of my poems this morning, looking for just the right words to begin this month's newsletter, I came across the final lines to "The Novel".

A page turned, new chapters begin. The sequel yet to unfold.

It's been well over a year since I wrote the words to that particular poem and I find those words have now taken on a deeper, richer meaning for me. It's one of those amazing properties about words that I love...their meanings shift and change over time just as our lives do.

Our lives give us the opportunity to turn pages, start new chapters and begin sequels that unfold before us continually. It happens suddenly sometimes. But mostly it happens gradually over time without us even noticing...until we step back and see where we've been, where we are...and how very far we've traveled to get there.

With these turning pages and additional chapters come opportunities, experiences and lovely new people that add to our yet unfolding sequel. Some of these people will appear briefly, while others will become lasting characters in our life story...and perhaps, we in their life story.

Never forgotten and never to end. Images etched on each soul.

I want to keep turning pages and adding additional chapters and  characters in my sequel for as long as I am able. I want to continue to write the words. And to do this I realize I must be open, accepting and positive to every opportunity and experience that comes my way.

We all have pages, chapters and sequels yet to write before our story is complete. Be open to every amazing possibility!

My very best to you,

            Cheryl

"The Partners"

"The Dance"

by C.L. Gillmore

A tentative waltz-sway, rise and fall.
Forward, side, back-a reflective recall.

Letters and words now carefully framed.
Each thought rehearsed again and again.
No turn or nod is left up to chance.
Steps have become a well-practiced dance.

Cues and timing both cautiously guarded.
The familiar rhythm lost and discarded.
Each dancer wary of crossing that line.
A closed position of mutual resign.

How far the distance traveled in a beat?
A tentative waltz left incomplete.

Kathryn's paintings and Cheryl's poetry will soon be available in note cards and will comprise a twelve-month calendar for next year...2013!

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Writing Standards - St. Louis

This past week in St. Louis I had the pleasure of serving on a federally funded NAEP panel to set up and review writing samples of 8th and 12th grade students. Our job, after two days of training, was to establish the "cut scores" that divide the three levels of achievement...advanced, proficient and basic.

Seventy percent of the panelists were teachers or non-teacher educators representing nearly every state in the union--including Hawaii and Alaska. The other thirty percent of us were "general public," with nearly all of us writers.

We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton, Missouri, a suburb about 20 minute from St. Louis and enjoyed great rooms, great service and great food! Those incentives seemed to balance the long brain-draining hours of hard work each day in our training and subsequent scoring sessions.

I was reminded of the love and dedication of teachers this week as I had the chance to talk and socialize with them again. It didn't matter what part of the country they came from, they were all equally concerned for the success of each of their students. I will always be proud to be a forever teacher.

I will always remember this great week spent with truly wonderful and dedicated people. I'm so glad I was chosen to be on the panel and that I was open, accepting and positive for this opportunity and experience to come into my life.

Once again, I am reminded...

"A page turned...new chapters begin. The sequel yet to unfold.

Never forgotten and never to end. Images etched on each soul."

Cheryl's Chicken Pillow Recipe

1. Boil 1 small chicken or 2 chicken breasts.

2. Dice and mix with the following ingredients:
      8 oz. cream
cheese

      ½ stick of butter

1 small can sliced mushrooms (may be fresh)

      1/3 chopped sweet onion

3. 2 cans crescent dinner rolls. Stretch out each

roll and spoon 2-3 Tbsp. mixture onto dough, fold over       and seal. Dough should resemble a little pillow after it's     folded and sealed. Brush

with ¼ to 1/3 cup melted butter. Roll in bread crumbs

(seasoned or not) and crushed nuts (your choice).

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

5. Serve with the following gravy:

      ½ cup chicken broth

1 small can sliced mushrooms (may use

      fresh)

1 can cream of chicken soup

     1 small container sour cream

   Mix together and heat.

6. Serve chicken pillows with gravy over the

    top...delicious!

My boys used to love these. I would finely chop the mushrooms so they couldn't find them! Ha! Ha!
