Dear Valued Patient:

With spring rapidly approaching, it's time to prepare for the active summer months ahead. Kayal Orthopaedic Center, P.C., invites you to consult our staff of experts for treatment of those injuries and painful joint conditions that may have plagued you during the chilly months. Our surgical team is trained in the latest treatments and therapies to help you shake off the aches and pains of winter -- and get moving again!

A Warm Welcome to Our Newest Staff Member

The surgical staff at Kayal Orthopaedic Center is proud to introduce our newest team member, Dean P. Mellas, a certified physician assistant. Dean comes to us from Advanced Surgical Solutions, where he worked in advanced laparoscopic surgery. We're pleased to add Dean's surgical skills to our practice.

A life-long achiever, Dean was an athlete in high school where he earned varsity letters in soccer and golf. He was also an outstanding scholar, receiving the New York State Regents College Scholarship and the Superintendents Award of Academic Excellence. He continued his achievements at Manhattan College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.

Dean entered the medical sciences as a volunteer EMT and a phlebotomist working at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. Continuing his studies, Dean pursued a degree in health sciences and received his Physician Assistant Certificate from the State University of New York at Stony Brook's School of Health, Technology and Management. Once again, his academic achievements earned him several scholarships, and after graduation, Dean worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital as a physician assistant in surgery.

A member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff, Dean is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Denise, have two lovely daughters, Eva and Ana. Dean enjoys sports, and plays recreational basketball and volleyball in his free time. Dean is excited to be working in orthopaedics here at Kayal Orthopaedic Center, and looks forward to developing a therapeutic alliance with each of his patients.
