The Lone Star Shootout
The 2012 Lone Star Shootout is in the books and in the record books in numerous ways! Our schedule move to the end of July produced our best field ever and record setting fishing that was as hot as the July weather. Newsletter space is limited so look for a press release soon with more details but to sum it up:
We had 42 entries at close of registration and the 38 that entered the optional pots set a new record tournament prize money of $625,100 setting a new record contribution to the HBGFC's Charitable Program of $31,255!
The radio and phones went off non stop on day one with reports of billfish releases and it continued into day two. After all the boats were in, videos reviewed and paperwork confirmed the field had released a record total of 70 billfish. The totals were 20 blue marlin, 17 white marlin and 32 sailfish.
Final Results:
The 2012 Shootout Champion is the Mojo, with a record 18 billfish released including 9 white marlin and 9 sailfish for a total of 2,700 points. Mojo owner is Will Lett, Captain Brian Phillips.
Second Place: Over-Ride with 4 blue marlin and 1 sailfish released, 2,100 points. Over-Ride owner is Marty Griffith, Captain Ryan Doxey.
