We need $100 towards the purchase of a computer to help Hands4Uganda manage the sponsorship coordination process in Uganda. The computer will be shipped there and used by Rock of Ages. If you can help, please go to the
Hands4Uganda website
and click on the general donation button. Because of other generous donors we are 2/3 of the way towards this much needed purchase!

Greetings to all our Friends and Sponsors!
Our team is currently in Uganda as I write this letter. You can read about some of what they have experienced in Ariane's blog . As you read, I'm sure you will feel the joy and the anguish they are experiencing as they work to serve the children there.
 | | New Shoes! | We are so thankful to all of you who bought shoes or gave us money to buy shoes. We were able to provide a new pair of shoes for every child in the school. Ariane and her team spent the first full day there handing out shoes. Frankly, we were a little worried as we bought, collected, tagged and packed the shoes. We had asked the staff at Rock of Ages to measure the kids feet using a ruler. A lot can get lost in translation between the metric system and the American shoe sizing system, but amazingly, out of 130 kids, we didn't have a fit for only 4! Shoes for those kids were bought at a local shop that sells used shoes, sent from other countries. Next year we should do even better. A few days before the team left, the local Payless manager donated a children's foot measure for the team to take over, one of those metal ones you are all familiar with!
Here is how Ariane described the shoe fitting process:
"Passing shoes out to around 130 children could have been somewhat overwhelming but I am speaking only the truth when I say it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Although we passed out shoes last year there was just something about yesterday that put such a joy in my heart I could have easily broken into tears. Removing familiar but now ratty shoes from the children's feet (many were wearing shoes we had given them last year) and placing new, clean, and correctly sized shoes on their feet was more of a blessing to me then I think to them. As I pulled fresh socks over their small feet and gently massaged them, smiles as wide as can be arose from their little faces. When I placed the new shoes on, grabbed another pair from the extra pile when the size was off, and tied them snuggly to their feet, a happiness overflowed from somewhere deep inside me. Best way to physically describe it was, I had the tingles all over. Goose bumps in the dead heat. God is so good and I often forget that."
The excited smiles on these kid's faces says "thank you" far better than any words I can write here. Still, the Hands4Uganda team again extends our thanks. You have joined us in"loving differently!"

Child of the Month - Brian Omedda
Brian is 7 years old. He recently started school at Rock of Ages, his first time ever in school. The Rock of Ages staff have placed him in Primary 1 (first grade equivalent) because he is much bigger than the kids in Nursery.
Both of Brian's parents are HIV positive. He lives with his grandmother.
Brian is not yet sponsored. You can sponsor him for just $20 a month. Learn how by going to our Hands4Uganda Website now.
Please contact Syd if you are interested in sponsoring another Rock of Ages Child. About half of the children at Rock of Ages are still awaiting sponsors. The need is so great, it is hard to turn kids away, but this presents us with many challenges, as we stretch dollars to meet the needs.
Update: Fahad Mwebe, the child we highlighted last month and Queen Kulunzizi (form the previous Month) have both been sponsored!
