Greetings!

On July 18th I will be leading a team of five individuals,  Hayden Paulsen, Ali Garrett, Chris Baum, Mikki Proffitt to Uganda, Africa! Each of us has committed to paying our own way a

Ariane and ROA student

Ariane with ROA Child in 2010

nd we have  been working hard to raise the funds necessary to cover flights and in country costs. We will be in Uganda for a total of 14 days,  and our key purpose is provide support to the Rock of Ages (ROA) School.  The Africa 2011 team has agreed to take food, sponsorship packets, shoes, and school supplies to ROA in hopes of providing each child with the basic needs of a young student. Our  next fundraiser for the group will be a yard sale on June 18th. If you are interested in donating items for the yard sale please call me, Ariane Drake at (208)530-0294. As excitement fills the air and the stress of travelling half way around the world sets in, we ask that anyone willing to pray for the team or help fund our  travel costs please email Ariane at ariane@hands4uganda.org with any questions, words of wisdom, or a simple "good luck".

It is through God's hands this trip has been planned and by His grace that the team will be safe, establish new relationships, grow spiritually, and intellectually and most importantly learn a bit more about ourselves and a whole lot more about our awesome God and His hand in our lives.

Shoes!

As the Africa 2011 team heads to Uganda in July, the team is

new shoes

hoping to take one pair of shoes for each child at Rock of Ages School. Last year Ariane Drake made collecting shoes for the Africa 2010 team to take to the children of ROA, her main priority.  Hands4Uganda is committed to helping Ariane and the Africa 2011 team collect shoes for this year's trip.  To get the community involved and to ensure a fitted pair of shoes for each child Hands4Uganda will be organizing "Shoe Trees" at various church locations. The idea of a "Shoe Tree" is very similar to that of the Christmas "Angle Tree". Each child from ROA will have their picture and shoe size placed on a card. These cards will then be tied to a tree in the front foyer of the participating churches.  Those willing to help can pick the child of their choice and hit the shoe store! If you are currently sponsoring a child and would like to participate in the shoe tree, please email syd@hands4uganda.org for your sponsored child's correct shoe size.

Clean Water
God continues to bless the Rock of Ages school in unexpected  ways!
Recently, Abdu  met a gentleman from the USA who was in Uganda to distribute water filters. Here is Abdu's  story:

"I recently met a  friend from Tennessee who is a business man and he is selling water filters in Uganda. He promised to donate to ROA a water filter, and on Saturday he fulfilled his promised and he donated one to us. This is great and it is going to help us save 94$ per month that we have been spending on boiling water for drinking for the kids.  According to research done by the Ugandan government, only 2% of the schools provide safe drinking water to kids so I guess we are amongst those now.

This filter provides 100% safe water according to our government,  so they are encouraging homes, schools and every body to buy them.  They cost 100$ each and what funny is am now their distributor in the whole of eastern Uganda."

Amazing, huh? Below are pictures of the new TivaWater Filter and the water vessel used by Rock of Ages school. For more information on the amazing TivaWater filter technology, go to www.TivaWater.com. This technology is simple,  inexpensive, and easy to maintain.

Send a gift to your child!

The highlight of ALL our outreach efforts is hand delivery of packages to the kids from their sponsors.  In July,  a group from  Idaho will be going to Uganda in July. We want to send a one gallon zip lock bag filled with goodies  for each child with the group.

Sponsors, this an opportunity to make a personal connection with your child!   Since not all the children are sponsored, others are invited to help as well. Only one bag per child please and keep it as light as possible.   See the delight in the faces of the kids who received gifts from thier sponsors last June!
