November General Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 11:55 a.m. by President, Dena DeCamp. Rose Spurlock gave the invocation and Valerie Jorn led the pledge of allegiance. Dena welcomed Rep. Kelli Stargell, State Committeewoman, Linda Ivell, George Lindsey who is running for County Commission seat and Rep. Adam Hasner who is running for nomination for Senator.
Zoraida ("Z") Colon-Collado spoke to members on Tri-County Human Services, Inc., and its many services to our community helping addicts and people suffering with mental health issues. She distributed a wish list for her organization. Rep. Hasner presented himself to members as a candidate for Senate office.
The minutes of the last meeting were made available to members and Kathy Fritz made a motion to accept the minutes. Paula Dimbath seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Pat Rideout presented the Treasurer's Report, which included the Profit and Loss Statement January through October 2011. Lou McCraney made a motion to accept the Treasurer's Report and Mary Lou Klockenkemper seconded it. Passed unanimously.
Jean Burt reported on the Nominating Committee. She advised that the committee, consisting of Jean Burt, Jane Blankenship, and Cathy Phillips, had presented a slate of candidates for various offices. Since that time, Michelle Robare, currently 1st Vice President and on the slate, has advised the committee that she will not seek the office of 1st Vice President but will run for President. She resigned her position of 1st Vice President. Kathy Fritz nominated Michelle Robare for President. Jean advised members that we will vote by secret paper ballot. Kay Cobb handed each member in good standing an envelope with a paper ballot to write their preference for President. Barbara Castillo made a motion that all votes should be tallied before the next vote on the slate would be taken. The following members spoke: Gay Harlow and Jane Blankenship spoke on what a good job Dena has done as president. Linda Ivell and Kay Cobb spoke on the good works done by Michelle and of the welcoming atmosphere of our club. Kelli Stargell spoke of the tremendous success of our club and then moved that the nominations for President be closed. Kathy Fritz seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
As the votes for President were being tallied, Dena asked for a vote on our revised By-Laws and Standing Rules which were emailed to members after our last general meeting. Lou McCraney made a motion to accept the revised By-Laws and Standing Rules. Ann Suden seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. They will be published in the new directory in January.
Dena asked the membership for a vote on the proposed change in tax status to a 501C3 Foundaion for our annual Spring for Education charitable event. Kathy Fritz made a motion to reject the idea of making our annual Spring for Education charitable event a 501C3 foundation. Susan Brafford seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dena reported on the formation of a new teenage Republican Club. She welcomed back member Mary Zimmerman to our luncheon after a long absence. The members wished and sang Happy Birthday to member Alicia Clayton who turned 92. Kathy Fritz reported that one of our members, June Domery had received fractures from a fall. Theresa Harris won the free lunch for the next regular meeting.
Jean Burt announced that Dena DeCamp had been re-elected President. After asking a few members if they would accept the nomination of 1st vice president and no one coming forth, Dena said she would appoint a 1st vice president. Kathy Fritz said it was too early in the process to appoint someone to that position. There was talk of filling that position at the January meeting. At this time, Mary Grader nominated Jean Burt as 1st vice president, which she accepted. A show of hands was taken and motion passed. The slate was then presented: Dena DeCamp, President; 1st Vice President, Jean Burt; 2nd Vice President, Kay Cobb; 3rd Vice President, Salena Joseph; Secretary, Gaylene Pope; Treasurer, Pat Rideout; Assistant Treasurer, Kim Jones; Correspondence Secretary, Elaine Mitchell. Linda Ivell made a motion to accept the slate of officers. Lou McCraney seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Janell Hendren made a motion to destroy the ballots. Lou McCraney seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Linda Ivell reminded members to get people registered by January 3rd for the presidential election primary. She also informed members that our District 12 will only have one seat for the upcoming Republican Convention. Also, she encouraged members to sign up as volunteers for the convention and not to be discouraged if we are not getting as much information as we would like from the committee at this time. Ann Suden reminded members that there was still time to order White House Christmas ornaments for this year.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:09 pm.
