Greetings!

This past weekend, we had a Membership Tea at the Lakeland Yacht Club. With 48 reservations, we gained 5 new members that day and promises from 2 others to mail in checks. We consider this a success! The Silent Auction and Stuffed Purse Auction were lots of fun and we were able to pay for the entire afternoon with monies raised through the auctions. Thanks to our fashion models: Kristy Osterholtz, Kay Cobb, Carol Goldenhill, Elaine Mitchell and Tiffany Stephens for doing such a wonderful job modeling clothing from Bealls of Florida. Our thanks to Scott Oglesby from Oglesby Auctions for supplying us with the bidding numbers and for the entertainment he provided showing us the proper way to handle purses.  Rep. Kelli Stargel and Rep. Ben Albritton were present as well as State Committeeman Robert Norman and his lovely daughter Holly. Thank you to everyone that participated and attended. What better way to spend a rainy afternoon than eating dessert, visiting with friends and bidding on great prizes!

On October 20, Congressman Dennis Ross will be speaking at our luncheon. This is the first time our Congressman has attended our luncheon since his election and we look forward to hearing his update from Washington D.C. Make your reservation early, we are expecting a full house for this.

Congratulations are due for our club and members. Our club was one of only 5 clubs in Florida that won the Diamond Award from the NFRW for Club Achievements. Without you, our club would not have won this award. Thank you to all our members that have worked hard to help us achieve this award.

Check the club calendar in this newsletter, we have scheduled the annual Christmas Party for December and our November luncheon will bring another Senatorial candidate to our club.

I look forward to seeing you all at the luncheon!

2011 Whitehouse Ornaments!

Ann Suden will be taking orders for the White House Christmas Ornaments again this year at the October and November meetings with distribution at the Christmas Party.   New regulations this year:  ordering 25 - 29 ornaments, cost $16.25 ea., free shipping.  Previously, a  10% discount was allowed for that number of orders,  but shipping & handling was charged.

The front of the 2011 ornament represents the excitement of the Teddy Roosevelt family as the first White House Christmas draws close.  No children had lived in the White House since 1897.  The six children were anxious to receive their presents in the White House this year. Since Teddy didn't believe trees should be used solely for decoration, he decided not to have a tree  in the White House.  But his sons Archie and Quentin thought that having a tree was a good idea, so they sneaked a small tree into their closet.  The back of the ornament shows the boys revealing the tree to Teddy and family.  From this, Teddy learned it was good for the forests to be thinned out so that smaller trees could grow.
