September General Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 12:15 p.m. by President, Dena DeCamp. Lynn Breidenbach gave the invocation and Laura Rodriguez led the pledge of allegiance.
Dena welcomed Sen. Paula Dockery, Jimmy Nelson, new Chairman of the Republican Executive Committee of Polk County, Steve Maxwell, Vice Chairman, past Chairman, Gene Roberts and Colleen Burton who is running for Supervisor of Elections position.
Dena introduced Bart Hudson, Curator of the Florida House in Washington, D.C. as our guest speaker, who gave a presentation of the history along with current activities of the Florida House.
The minutes of the last meeting were made available to members. Terry Mann made a motion to accept the minutes and Lynn Breidenbach seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
The Treasurer's Report was presented to members by Pat Rideout, Treasurer. There was a question regarding Christmas ticket sales of $100.00 under Special Events Income and Pat said she would check into it. Kay Cobb made a motion to accept the Treasurer's Report and Michelle Robare seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. Dena reported that at the last Board Meeting, members voted to donate $500.00 to the Florida House.
Dena invited Chairman, Jimmy Nelson to speak about the upcoming dinner for candidate, Herman Cain.
New Business: Vice President, Michelle Robare, reported on upcoming speakers: October-Congressman Dennis Ross; November-Adam Hasner; December no general meeting luncheon due to Christmas Party to be held December 8th; January-swearing in of officers; February-Craig Miller, Senate candidate. Our annual fundraiser will be held in either March or April.
Old Business: The FFRW Convention will be held during the Presidency 5 event in Orlando starting on September 22nd and election for President will be held at that time. On Thursday, there will be a cocktail party that evening honoring Sharon Day. Nineteen members of our club are attending Presidency 5, and we have volunteers for Presidency 5, CPAC, RPF Quarterly.
Dena announced Chairman Bitner of RPF passed away and the issue to his replacement must be resolved. Long-time club member, Mary Zimmerman's husband passed away, and she asked Dena to thank everyone for their cards and messages. Dena congratulated Cathy Phillips on the anniversary of 60 years of marriage.
By-Laws Update: In the next week, the membership will receive the By-laws and Rules via email to review. Jean Burt went over the By-Laws and no real changes were made except for some grammatical errors. At the October meeting, we will have to vote on the By-Laws and Standing Rules.
FFRW shirts are for sale.
On October 9th, our Membership Tea is being held at the Lakeland Yacht and Country Club, and if you bring along a prospective member, you get in free. The event will include a dessert bar, coffee, tea, the stuffed purses auction and a small fashion show. Any donations for the purses should go to Kim Jones and also models are needed.
October 26th will be the new member orientation and every quarter we will have an orientation. Kim Jones designed a new membership application which is now done as a tri-fold. You can get them from Kay Cobb.
Lynne Breidenbach announced the Anchor House event to be held October 27th with Lt. Col. Steven Russell speaking.
Kay Cobb reminded everyone to fill out the petition cards for Colleen Burton.
