Purple Crayon Diary

We were thrilled that the program was such a success: one participant told us later, "I loved being surrounded by passionate, entrepreneurial, brave people everyday." And Seth honored us by calling it "a pleasure and a treat to work at The Purple Crayon." Best of all for us, though, was the chance to see the space filled with people from all over the world, and know that in hosting The Medicine Ball Sessions, we were taking a new step toward fulfilling The Purple Crayon's mission of helping people take steps toward the lives and work they want..

Director's Note Happy new year! 2011 was a momentous year--we opened our doors and started out the gate--but we hope 2012 will bring even more! More programs, more shows, more people coming in and sharing the space and the possibility.
On a personal note, I am eager to fill this year with energy, good conversations, new endeavors, and constructive completions (be they successful or otherwise!). I want to write more, sing and dance more, and accomplish more, and I hope to have the chance to share many of these writings, celebrations, and accomplishments with many of you.
If you value what The Purple Crayon is offering, please help us dig in our heels this year by joining us and spreading the word. And let us know of we can help with that original question: where will The Purple Crayon take you?

College Selection... Purple Crayon Style
Our flagship program for teens, Draw Your Future, is proud to offer a brand-new course. You U is an 8-week class for teens on how to navigate applying for college. But this is not the usual talk of test scores and majors. You U will be led by Purple Crayon Executive Director, Sarah Silbert Hinawi, who has worked in the field of education and student success for more than a decade. Sarah says, "Choosing a college is the opportunity of a lifetime - when else do you get to choose a communty of your peers to live with for four or so years! I want kids to have fun imagining and get excited for what's ahead."
Over the eight weeks, Sarah will lead the group in unique activities and discussions that get at the heart of what college selection should be about and work with them to explore which colleges could be a perfect fit for each participant.
Sarah holds a Masters in Educational Counseling, and helped design The College Board's nationally implemented CollegeEd program.

Lunchpad is About to Launch
Of course we love what social media can do to put your work out in the world, but we also know that when it comes to the alchemy of inspiration, there's no substitute for getting out from behind the computer for a face-to-face chat over a table of food. In that spirit, we are starting a brand new program at The Inc:
Lunchpad is a weekly lunch, gathering people with a variety of interests and expertise, to make connections, brainstorm ideas, and solve problems. All you need to bring are your ideas and creativity--AND one ingredient for our communal salad!
We'll be kicking off next Tuesday, Jan. 10th at noon. We hope to see you there--and feel free to invite others!
