Team Chevy celebrates its third and fourth consecutive IndyCar race wins!
Grand Prix of Long Beach:
Chevrolet and Ilmor proved they wouldn't let obstacles stand in the way of victory lane at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 15. Due to a last minute engine change, all Team Chevy drivers were forced to take 10 grid penalty for the race start. With strengthened resolve, five Chevrolet V-6-powered cars finished in the Firestone Fast Six. Ryan Briscoe won the pole, claiming the third consecutive pole for Team Penske this season. Briscoe also set an IZOD IndyCar Series track record with an amazing lap time of 1:08:6089 around the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street course.
Due to stellar race strategy and excellent engine fuel economy, Will Power of Team Penske took the lead on lap 70 of the action-packed 85 lap race and blazed his way to victory lane. It was the second IZOD IndyCar Series victory for Power in as many weeks and the third consecutive win for Team Penske, Team Chevy and Ilmor this season.
Following the win, Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing IZOD IndyCar Series Program Manager said: "Today's four of the top-five including the victory and seven of the top-10 finishes by our Chevrolet V-6 IndyCar teams in the Grand Prix of Long Beach Indy is a testimony to the determination, talent and spirit of cooperation of Team Chevy in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Each one of our Chevrolet teams and drivers put forth their best effort to overcome the adversity of their starting positions. It was an amazing race to watch and a great show for the fans."
São Paulo Indy 300:
This past weekend marked another victory for Chevrolet and Ilmor at the rainy São Paulo Indy 300. Will Power of Team Penske won the pole with record-setting lap time of 1:21.4045 around the 2.536-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit in São Paul, Brazil. Also among the top five were Team Chevy drivers James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay of Andretti Autosport, who started the 75-lap race from fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
The wet course made for an exciting race, and Will Power led Team Chevy to victory lane for the fourth consecutive win. This is Power's third win of the 2012 IndyCar season, making him current Series' points leader, as well as his third consecutive win in São Paulo. A total of seven Chevrolet V-6 2.2 liter IndyCar drivers were credited with top-10 finishing positions.
"What a win today at São Paulo!" said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing IZOD IndyCar Series Program Manager. "Will Power and Team Penske are showing the qualities that win championships. We are so proud of the efforts of all the Chevrolet V-6 IndyCar teams. With Ryan Hunter-Reay and Helio Castroneves bringing home top-five finishes as well, it is a testimony to the determination, dedication and depth of talent of our teams and technical partners in the IZOD IndyCar Series. What a tremendous first four races of the season. Now we shift our focus to the Indianapolis 500!"
Next up for Team Chevy and Ilmor is the thrilling Indianapolis 500. Be sure to catch the action on May 27, beginning at 12:00pm EDT.
