The end of the year is approaching, and we at Ilmor are still keeping busy! Between 2012 IndyCar testing and the end-of-season boating events, we've been all over the country supporting Ilmor partners and customers.
This fall has been marked by several highlights, including successful tests of the new IndyCar engine and our 7th Powerboat World Championship with Ilmor MV10 engines. However, there have also been some difficult losses which have affected us deeply. We would like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of two individuals that have played an important part in Ilmor's history.
Dan Wheldon, who drove two Ilmor-powered cars to victory at the Indy 500, was tragically killed during the Las Vegas Championship race in October. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and team of this talented driver.
Bob Morgan, owner and throttleman of Big Thunder, a 46-foot Skater, was killed after a crash on the first day of racing at the Key West Powerboat World Championships last week. Bob was especially influential in the success of Ilmor's High Performance Marine program as an important early advocate of the MV10 marine engines. We mourn his passing and thank him for his support of our brand.
In the aftermath of these losses, the Ilmor team will continue to push forward, focusing on the new events and products for 2012, and invite you to be a part of our future successes both on land and sea.

Preview: The 2012 Chevrolet IndyCar Engine

The 2012 IndyCar program is well underway, and is already proving to be exciting with a very competitive spirit you can feel at every test track.
Due to a rules update, the 2012 Izod IndyCar Series will make significant changes to the overall series. Additional manufacturers will be returning to the series after a 5 year hiatus, inlcuding Chevrolet, Honda and Lotus. Ilmor Engineering is thrilled to be a partner to Chevrolet in this ground-breaking new season.
That's not the only change. There will also be a complete overhaul of the existing engine and chassis with which each team will race. The new 2012 engine will be a 2.2L Twin-Turbo V6, with direct fuel injection and E85 capability. The new chassis, produced by Dallara, will also feature several major updates for a totally new design.
Closed testing on the new engines will continue throughout the winter in preparation for the kickoff of the season on March 25 at the Streets of St. Petersburg Race. Be sure to check back to www.ilmor.com or www.indycar.com for more information on the 2012 IndyCar season.

Another Powerboat World Championship
The Chaudron Seagull #43, powered by twin Ilmor MV10-570 engines, won the 31st Annual Key West World Championship on November 13. The 13 meter boat, built in Malta and owned by Ukraine Spirit, took part in the Manufacturer Production 3 Class of the Super Boat International 2011 championship series.
For the three days of racing, the Seagull was crewed by Ukrainians Oleksiy Chendekov (pilot), Andriy Lysenko (throttleman) and Dmytro Gerasymenko (navigator).
On Day One, the Seagull took second place, but returned on Days Two and Three with dominating victories to win both the event class and the World Championship. This is Seagull Chaudron's second World Championship powered by Ilmor MV10 engines - the first being the 2009 P1 SuperSport World Championship.

A Record-Breaking Race Around Long Island
On September 25, 2011, Joe Cibellis and Joe Sgro set a new record for a powerboat to circumnavigate Long Island. They completed the 271 mile course in an unprecedented 3 hours and 5 minutes, riding non-stop in their 43' Outerlimits SV powered by twin Ilmor MV10 725 engines and INDY Stern drives.
The previous record was set in 1989. The race is produced by the National Powerboat Association, in affiliation with the Historic Offshore Raceboat Association, Manhasset Bay Marina and Michael Aronow, son of Don Aronow, founder of the race in the 1960s.

Viper Motorcycle Steals the Show in the Key West Poker Run Village
 The team from Viper Motorcycles joined us at our display in Poker Run Village at the annual Key West Poker Run, produced by the Florida Powerboat Club.
With two 2011 Diamondbacks in tow, the crowd was enthralled by the sophisticated styling of the bike and the sheer power of the 152 cu. in. Ilmor V-Twin engine. Interest in this unique bike was very high - it won't be long before we start seeing Diamondbacks all across the country.

About Ilmor
Ilmor Engineering was founded in 1984 when engineers Mario Illien (IL) and Paul Morgan (MOR) reached out to Roger Penske with a plan to build a better engine for the IndyCar racing series. Since then, legendary drivers like Andretti, Unser, and Castroneves have all driven cars powered by Ilmor engines.
