February News2011
Greetings!

This time of year we begin thinking about spring and warmer weather.  Remember to drive safely and be sure to keep an eye out for bicyclists and motorcycles sharing the roadways.

Racing season has also begun, so the Cassills will be watching NASCAR each week and cheering for our favorite driver.  Stop in at our new 3rd location on Williams Blvd in the former Donutland building across from McDonalds - the coffee is on in the showroom!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Prochaska

Jay's Tech Tip # 9

Question:  Winter looks like its over and what component of your vehicle gets overlooked and the most abused in the winter?

Answer: Your transmission

Maybe you plow snow, pull snowmobile trailers..... or maybe you just got stuck in that heavy deep snow we got this year. Did you know that transmission fluid looses its lubricating quality after it reaches 200 degrees?

How do I know and what should I do?

If you have 30,000 miles since the last transmission SERVICE you should get it SERVICED. If you pull trailers or plow snow its best to put a temperature gauge on the transmission so you can monitor its temperature when using it in hard situations.

Why the emphasis on SERVICE instead of flushing?

Your transmission has very small passages the fluid has to pass through to make everything work properly. The filtration system is very important - almost even more important than the engine oil filtration. So where is the transmission filter located? Inside the transmission - and that is why I don't like or recommend just getting the fluid FLUSHED, you need to replace the filter also.

So have your transmisson serviced:

  • every 30,000 miles for normal use
  • 20,000 for extreme use
  • or (with a gauge installed in the vehicle) service after 200 degrees has been reached

Landon 3rd place in Daytona pic

Coming off of an impressive 3rd-place-finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series season-opening Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway, Landon Cassill is set to drive the No. 60 BigRed Germain Racing Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series when he is not piloting the No. 09 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet for team owner James Finch.

There is also talk of Landon running more NASCAR Nationwide Series events for Finch, but a schedule is still to be determined.

Iracing FansAfter California native Jason Lofing took home a cool $1,000 prize for the first iRacing Landon Cassill Qualifying challenge, Landon has began planning a second LCQC for a late-april date at the track too tough to tame, Darlington Raceway.

Pasta with Onion Sauce

In honor of "National Noodle Month" I have included this side dish recipe-

Pasta with onion sauceIngredients:

3 ounces  dried linguine or fettuccine

1 1/2 cups  broccoli flowerets
   Nonstick spray coating
1 medium onion, sliced and separated into rings
3/4 cup  fat-free milk
2 teaspoons  cornstarch
1 teaspoon  instant chicken bouillon granules
Dash  pepper
Dash  ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons  dry white wine
1/2 cup  shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese (2 ounces)

10 minutes to prepare, 20 minutes to the table!

 Directions:

1. Cook linguine or fettuccine according to package directions, adding the broccoli for the last 5 minutes of cooking. Drain well.

2. Meanwhile, lightly coat a large skillet with nonstick spray coating. Add onion to the skillet. Cook, covered, over medium-low heat about 10 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.

3.  In a small bowl stir together milk, cornstarch, bouillon granules, pepper, and nutmeg. Add to onion in skillet. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 2 minutes more. Stir in wine and cheese until cheese is melted. Pour cheese mixture over pasta and broccoli; toss to coat. Makes 5 side-dish servings.
