HOW TO PREPARE YOUR CAR FOR SUMMER DRIVING... | |
Summer is here! That means boating, biking, parks, and picnics! It also means that you want your vehicle to be in tip top shape, so that you don't waste your summer 'fun time' taking care of problems!
Here are 5 tips before heading out on your big trip:
- Check the oil. Yes, it sounds simple, but remember "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!" Other fluid levels that are easy to check yourself include: Transmission Fluid, Radiator Level (make sure the vehicle is cool), and Brake Fluid.
- Washer Fluid and Wiper Blades. Yes, I could have listed it as another fluid level, but this is one that is often forgotten. What is more irritating after a few hours of bugs on the highway, than to realize that the reservoir is empty?
- Did you know Tire Pressure can affect your fuel economy and tire life? Always check your tire sidewall for proper inflation. While you are at it, be sure that you have a working jack and an inflated spare (just in case)
- Lights and Bulbs. If you are pulling a trailer you want to check your wiring harness and trailer lights as well.

Summer is time for Fresh Veggies! June in Iowa that means: Fresh salad mixes, fresh onions, strawberries, and don't forget the asparagus and kohl rabi! Here is a fun summer recipe to try:
Ramen Noodle Salad
- 1 large head Napa cabbage, shredded or finely chopped
- 5 green onions, chopped
- 2 packages uncooked Ramen noodles, (discard the seasoning package)
- 1 pkg sunflower kernels or slivered almonds
- 5 tablespoons butter
Dressing
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup vinegar
Put cabbage and onions in large bowl; chill. Heat butter in a skillet over medium-low heat; slowly cook noodles and sunflower kernels or almonds until lightly browned. Cool. Combine dressing ingredients; refrigerate to chill thoroughly. Mix all ingredients just before serving. Ramen noodle salad recipe serves 10 to 12. |

 Landon just had his first Sprint Cup start! It was an awesome experience at the Michigan Cup race. He is still doing his day job, testing cars for Hendrick Motorsports, and looking for a car to race in any of the three NASCAR Series.
