LOOPED: MAGIC AND MYSTICISM
JUNE 1 - JULY 31, 2011

The third iteration of Looped in the foyer gallery showcases three prominent contemporary video artists including Turner Prize-winner, Mark Wallinger.
Emilie Halpern uses inventive physical effects to create whimsical tromp l'oeil within digital video, resulting in visual puns and illusions that portray a desire to assert control over the forces of physics, love and nature.
Inspired by her mother and the trends of new-ageism in the Southwest, Shana Moulton has made Whispering Pines, a series of performative videos that explore the culture and pseudo-magic of the self-help industry and the humorous and kitschy mechanisms through which we seek enlightenment and healing.
In The Magic of Things, Mark Wallinger revisits 70s TV classic series Bewitched, edits out all human characters, and stitches together scenes of telekenisis to create a universe in which inanimate objects are constantly moving on their own accord.

NOT JUST ANOTHER PRETTY FACE
JUNE 13 - AUGUST 13, 2011

The Art Center is pleased to present the third annual Not Just Another Pretty Face exhibition, showcasing work resulting from the Art Center's 2011 Not Just Another Pretty Face Salon commissions.
This program encourages new and existing collectors of contemporary art to commission work from a select group of emerging and established artists. This process strengthens Utah's artistic community by building personal relationships between artists and patrons, while also supporting the Art Center's mission to exhibit engaging contemporary art and provide dynamic educational programming for our community.

THE SELECTIVE ECHO
SALT LAKE CITY AT ITS COSMOPOLITAN BEST
A special thank you to Salt Lake City blog The Selective Echo for an amazing review of the Art Center in celebration of our 80th Anniversary:
"Recently tapped for a Best of State Award for Best Museum... the center, under Adam Price's leadership, has pushed ahead with a tradition-breaking agenda that is,surprisingly, as reflective of its formative years as it is of the ever-shifting terrain of art in the 21st Century." "...The Salt Lake Art Center is, by all measures, an indispensable, essential institution for making the community cultural landscape as socially enterprising as any found in any other American city."
