There are some voices in the world of music that are unmistakable.  In the realm of rock and heavy metal none are more recognizable than that of Ronnie James Dio. 

Dio hit the scene in the early 70s with the band Elf which formed into Rainbow in the later 70s.  After several lineup changes the band members eventually went on their separate ways.  Dio joined legendary band Black Sabbath, following long time front man Ozzy Osbourne.  After several successful albums and tours, Dio ventured out on his own and released many successful albums under the name Dio.  Years later he reunited with members of Black Sabbath and became Heaven and Hell.  Dio is also revered as having originate the rock symbol devil horns.

 

Although ferocious at the microphone stand, Dio was known in the industry as a genuinely nice guy, extremely intelligent and very generous.  He will be greatly missed by fans and colleagues alike.
