See you at one of the markets!.

We will not be at the Lexington Farmers Market at the University of Kentucky on University Drive, Wednesday, August 1st (3:00-6:00pm)

You may purchase honey, pollen, and/or beeswax candles from us anytime from our home at 1909 Nicholasville Road in Lexington. Call us first at 859 276-0258, and we will put what you want on our back porch for you to pick up. You may also call to make an appointment to look at Bev's candle selection.

Out home is located one block north (toward downtown) of the intersection of Southland Drive and Nicholasville Road. Turn on Goodrich Avenue and take the first driveway on your right, and you will be in our back yard. There will be a silver travel trailer (Airstream) under an awning directly in front of you. Your honey will be on the back porch. If we are not home, just leave the money on the counter.  There is change in a small jar on the counter if you need some.

BLUE MOON FARM***Sustainably Grown***
Madison County

We're very much looking forward to the cooler, drier weather forecast for this weekend!  Looks like perfect market days....maybe even a little cold early Saturday....that'll feel good!

Our different varieties of CUT BASILS have really been popular this year.....there's the regular sweet basil, GENOVESE, then the stronger anise flavored THAI, and the fruity, refreshing LIME.  The LIME BASIL makes a knock-out pesto, perfect for seafood, chicken or pasta!

Sometimes a customer will notice the GARLIC CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES on our table and begin to ask "why chocolate and garlic?" and then they look around at our tables and see GARLIC everywhere!!  When they understand that garlic is our primary crop, it all makes more sense.....or as we like to say, "Blue Moon Garlic makes good scents!"  :-)

We've been making our HANDMADE GARLIC BRAIDS every chance we get, and will have a nice selection with us this weekend, both hardneck and soft.  They make a terrific gift for a wedding or housewarming, or as a thank-you for someone who's done something nice!

We'll have lots of BAGGED GARLIC as well (including the new UZBEKISTAN), and big SINGLE BULBS.  GARLIC SCAPE PESTO, garlicky CHAMPAGNE DRESSING, homemade GARLIC POWDERS, GARLIC BAGELS, and GARLIC-TOPPED FOCACCIA!  Just follow your nose!

There will be more of our FRESH KALE, SHALLOTS, ONIONS, maybe some of our new LETTUCE crop!  We know you've all been craving fresh lettuce!
Bracken County SHIITAKE and OYSTER MUSHROOMS, Stone Cross Farm's PASTURED PORK products and handmade SOAPS, Colcord Farm's GRASS FINISHED BEEF, local LAMB, KY CHEESES from Kenny's, ARTISAN BREADS and PASTRIES from Sunrise Bakery.

Stop in and see how great our booth smells!  For special orders, [email protected] , get the latest farm updates on Facebook   www.facebook.com/bluemoongarlic  or visit our website at

See you this weekend!

Bleugrass Chvre

Clark County

We'll be at the U.K. market this afternoon from 3 to 6, so come by for a cool scoop of sorbet - Sam's sweet corn with blackberry swirl (honest!), Raggard's fresh peach with chvre, and the perennial favorite mango-lime.  See you on Saturday, as well, with goat cheese and more flavors of sorbet.

Abigail's
Fayette County

This has been a wonderful summer!  I hope it has been for you.  There is plenty of time left in the season to get such yummy treats like goat cheese from Bluegrass Chevre, which is next to me.  Perhaps you need some garlic from Blue  Moon Farm or pawpaws from the PawPaw Plantation to make pawpaw ice cream.  Now if you need fresh honey, you know where to come - Abigail's!!!!!

HONEY -  I have a nice locust/clover blend.  It is a very light mild honey. Very smooth.  A beautiful table honey.  My husband is going to take off work this month and we are going to do one last sweep of the hives.  Maybe there might be some honey or not.  We will see.

SOAPS - They may look clunky but they work.  They leave your skin feeling refreshed and moisturized.  Compare them with commercial soaps.  You can't beat soaps with olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, palm oil, Vitamin E and honey.  You just can't!!!!!

"Death By Bridle"  is the third installment in the Josiah Reynolds mysteries.  I have two left but I have ordered more.  "Death By Bourbon"  will be out in a month.  Have your fingers  crossed that I make the deadline.  All books are available at the LFM -  Josiah's market of choice.

Need to contact me - [email protected]   or www.abigailkeam.com

Talks -  Will be happy to talk with your group.  Just email me several months before the event.  If I can make it - I will.

QUARLES DAYLILLIES AND FARM

Shelby County

We've got a bit of much welcome rain over the last two weeks.  It's made the beans, squash and cucumbers sprout which is good.  Now if we can just get the carrots and beets to sprout.  It may not be meant to happen but we'll keep our fingers crossed.  Right now our zucchini, yellow squash and cucumbers are doing well and we'll have plenty at both markets in addition to onions.

We'll also have plenty of beef in the coolers.  Steaks, brats, metts, roasts. hamburger patties.  Lots of variety.  For those of you that want organ meat, we should have plenty of liver soon.  We'll also have several other varieties of organ meat.  Just drop us a line and we'll let you know what we have left.  We'll also have beef BBQ ready to eat as sandwiches or heat and eat at home.  Good for nights you don't really feel like heating up the kitchen.  Sweet tea and lemonade is also available for those dying of thirst during their shopping ventures.

Lots of breads will grace the table, just right for family gatherings or lunch box treats.  Buy several, take them home, slip them in a freezer bag and enjoy them throughout the week.

Check out our website at quarlesfarm.com or visit our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/Quarlesfarm   There's a few pictures of our newest aquisitions, hair sheep.  We've bought four feeder lambs and four replacement yearling ewes so life should be entertaining for a while.  Sheep have returned to Quarles Farm for the first time in over 40 years.  We think it's about time.

GOOD SHEPHERD
Bath County

Lambing season is over here on the farm at Good Shepherd Cheese.  Our final total of lambs is 69.  35 ewe lambs and 34 ram lambs.  Our 51 momma ewes are back in the pasture now, spending their days munching on Orchard grass & Clover from our rich Kentucky soil here in the rolling hills in Bath County.  The orchard grass, clover & native flora all combine to give our sheep milk it's own distinctive flavor.  This flavor contributes a wonderful earthy, nutty and buttery taste to our Good Shepherd Cheese.

News Flash - Check out the June issue of Kentucky Monthly Magazine for a great article about Good Shepherd Cheese by Megan Smith.  Megan has done a wonderful job of capturing what life is like here on the farm.  She also lets her readers know just how we got into this crazy life of milking sheep and making cheese.

LA PETITE CREPERIE

Fayette County

La Petite Crperie brings a little taste of France to the Bluegrass.

The idea for opening a walk-up crperie was hatched many years ago when I was a student in France.   After discovering crpes they became a staple of my diet because as a hot, quick meal they fit right in with the poor student budget.  The best part was that they were never far away. Walk-up crpe windows are like hot dog stands in New York; they are everywhere.

My husband Mark and I took many more trips to France and ate countless more crpes.  We decided that the good people of Lexington should be able enjoy them here.  After years of tweaking batters and looking for just the right griddle, and after serving hundreds of crpes to our friends, family and my French students, we think we've hit on a good combination.

La Petite Crperie hopes to recreate the experience of ordering a French crpe emporter.  Half of the fun is watching, smelling, and anticipating how delicious it's going to be.  Our batter contains only eggs from the market, Weisenberger white and wheat flours, Kentucky produced whole milk, water, canola oil, sugar and salt. Our sweet crpe fillings include honey and jam from Farmers' Market vendors, and the butter and sugar crpes are made with homemade butter from the market. We also make a hearty breakfast crpe with market eggs, cheese and vegetables. Our menu will vary as other fruits, berries and vegetables come into season.

La Petite Crperie will be open most Saturdays at Cheapside from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm. and most Sundays at Southland from 10:00 until 2:00.  You can visit our website, www.petitecreperie.com to find out exactly where we will be and when.  Bon apptit!

Remember to visit our website at http://www.lexingtonfarmersmarket.com for more information about the market.

A Chemical Reaction tells the story of one of the most powerful and effective community initiatives in the history of North America. It started with one lone voice in 1984. Dr. June Irwin, a dermatologist, noticed a connection between her patients' health conditions and their exposure to chemical pesticides and herbicides. With relentless persistence she brought her concerns to town meetings to warn her fellow citizens that the chemicals they were putting on their lawns posed severe health risks and had unknown side effects on the environment.

THE FAYETTE ALLIANCE

The Fayette Alliance is Lexington's ONLY land-use advocacy organization that regularly educates and lobbies local government for a sustainable growth model that benefits all of us.

We believe that preserving our signature Bluegrass landscape, creating a dynamic and equitable cityscape through infill redevelopment, and improving our natural waterways by fixing our sanitary sewer and stormwater systems are key components to achieving our economic and environmental promise here in Lexington-Fayette County.

We are an alliance of citizens from the entire community, including stakeholders from the agricultural, neighborhood, and infill sectors. We are a united voice for responsible growth, and only weigh-in on those land-use issues that have countywide implications. Together we can chart our future, and positively impact local zoning decisions-the very building blocks of our community.

If you want a better quality of life for all of us, please join The Fayette Alliance today for free.  Visit www.fayettealliance.com for more information.

WUKY

WUKY was founded in 1941 as the radio voice of the University of Kentucky. Our mission then-as now-was to bring information and enlightenment to the people of central Kentucky. Back then we even hauled radios to remote areas so people could hear our programs. Today we're pioneering the use of digital technology to bring multiple streams of great non-commercial programming to this region. Whether you're a Lexington resident or a visitor, please take a moment this weekend to tune your radio to WUKY at 91.3FM, and, when you get home, stream our signal on line at www.wuky.org. There you'll enjoy NPR's Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Car Talk and Fresh Air all supplemented by award-winning WUKY news. On weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m., you'll hear a unique blend of music that we call "Adult Rock", featuring a wide variety of artists from Talking Heads to Norah Jones to Lucinda Williams. In addition, our weekend schedule includes everything from A Prairie Home Companion to the big bands, the Grateful Dead Hour, and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. WUKY 91.3FM truly has something for everyone. We are able to accomplish all this only because of community support. Income from this and other special events, underwriting by area businesses, and contributions from individual donors account for over two-thirds of our budget so please pledge now and thank you so much for supporting WUKY.
