I can almost smell them sizzling on the grill as I write this! We're also running the oven at full strength making breads and cakes for your get togethers so you don't have to worry about something quick for breakfast or something to finish off that great picnic supper. We'll have plenty of salsa and other value added products as well as a good selection of produce for your perusal. You can e-mail us your meat selections at quarlesfarms@live.com. That will assure you that we have your choices on the truck Saturday or Sunday. Don't forget there'll soon be a great selection of fall vegetables at the market as well as a continuing selection of tomatoes, squashes, peppers, sweet corn and the like. Enjoy fresh while you can. First frost is probably about 6-8 weeks away.
BLUE MOON FARM***Sustainably Grown***
Madison County
Labor Day weekend? Already?? Impossible!! Seems like Memorial Day weekend was just a couple of weeks ago! The perfect way to say good bye to the "official" summer season is a family barbeque full of local foods! Come on down on Saturday or Sunday and pick up everything you need at the Lexington Farmers' Market.
For your barbeque we have all kinds of European PORK SAUSAGES from Stone Cross Farm in Spencer County....Italian, Polish, Bratwurst, English Bangers, Chorizo and Knockwurst (hot dogs)....all nitrate free! We'll also have a good supply of PORK CHOPS (bone-in or boneless), which are yummy grilled! Their BACON is the best for breakfast or your BLT! Would you rather have BREAKFAST SAUSAGE? We'll have that too!
For the BEEF eaters, we'll have Colcord Farm (Bourbon County) GRASS FINISHED BEEF. "Grass Finished" means the animals have never eaten any grain (as nature intended!).....unlike "grass fed" which means they are finished on grain. There will be STEAKS, ROASTS and BURGER, both regular ground and ground round. Or how about celebrating summer with a FILET? Mmmmmm!!
For something different from the grill, we have GROUND KY LAMB to make delicious lamb burgers, or LAMB STEW MEAT to make shish kabob. We'll have yummy OYSTER MUSHROOMS from Bracken County to grill or add to your vegetable dishes.
Our famous BABY SQUASH MEDLEY will be in abundance this weekend.....perfect timing for the holiday weekend! Beautiful tiny baby squash in about a dozen varieties, picked with blooms when possible. Easy to cook (steam or saute), or serve raw with dip.
To top any of these things as they come off the grill, try our GARLIC SCAPE PESTO! It's also great on corn on the cob or slices of fresh tomatoes. We also have CHAMPAGNE DRESSING for those wanting a creamier garlicky topping.
We welcome the fall season with Kenny's seasonal APPLE CHEDDAR CHEESE.....come try a sample! We'll be well stocked with all your other favorites too.
FRESH CUT BASIL has been flying out of our booth the past few Saturdays! It is beautiful, fragrant, delicious, and healthy! Try some whole leaves on a sandwich in place of lettuce! There's still time to make pesto for your freezer, for the long winter ahead!
And did I forget to mention our GARLIC??? If you've never tried it, you're missing out! We'll have BULBS, BAGS, BRAIDS and POWDERS to help you season your meals.
For additional seasoning, we carry Bourbon Barrel Foods SOY, WORCESTERSHIRE and KENTUCKYAKI, as well as Bourbon Smoked SALT , PEPPER & PAPRIKA.
To start your days, we are now making our own TEA BLENDS........Earl Grey (either black or green), ROSEMARY and LAVENDER. We call it "Blue Moon Farm Sunday Tea", and we have been drinking it for at least 20 years! It's soothing for a leisurely weekend morning.......or even not so leisurely.....I've always got a thermos of it with me at market!
Sunrise Bakery will fill our pastry case with CINNAMON BUNS, CROISSANTS with and without chocolate, and MUFFINS, and our bread rack with all their delicious ARTISAN BREADS, including GARLIC TOPPED FOCACCIA. The GARLIC BAGELS come to us warm from the oven around 9AM. Best bagels this side of NYC! Try them with some soft goat cheese from Bluegrass Chevre!
We've still got some HERB SETS available, but we're not regularly carrying them to the market at this point. If you're looking for something in particular, just drop an email and we'll be glad to bring it for you! garlic@bluemoongarlic.com
Looks like another beautiful weekend in store , so come on down! We'll be glad to see your smiling faces!
HENKLE'S HERBS AND HEIRLOOMS
Jessamine County
If knowing the origin of what you consume is important to you, as it should be, then we are the folks to shop with. EVERYTHING we offer is started from seed and grown by us just 15 miles away at our farm in Nicholasville. We opt to use biological controls and to release beneficial insects like lacewings and lady beetles (We recently released 70,000 of them) instead of spraying with pesticides that kill honey bees and other beneficial predators to create a pest management system that is friendly to the food we bring to market as well as the environment.
Look for us and our big box truck at Maxwell and Broadway this Thursday, at the corner of Short and Upper on Saturday and at Southland Drive on Sunday. All of our offerings are sustainably grown, Kentucky Proud, 100% homegrown, and pesticide free. We are delighted to inform you that we do not sell anything that we do not grow. LA PETITE CREPERIE
Fayette County
La Petite Crêperie brings a little taste of France to the Bluegrass.
The idea for opening a walk-up crêperie was hatched many years ago when I was a student in France. After discovering crêpes they became a staple of my diet because as a hot, quick meal they fit right in with the poor student budget. The best part was that they were never far away. Walk-up crêpe windows are like hot dog stands in New York; they are everywhere.
My husband Mark and I took many more trips to France and ate countless more crêpes. We decided that the good people of Lexington should be able enjoy them here. After years of tweaking batters and looking for just the right griddle, and after serving hundreds of crêpes to our friends, family and my French students, we think we've hit on a good combination.
La Petite Crêperie hopes to recreate the experience of ordering a French crêpe à emporter. Half of the fun is watching, smelling, and anticipating how delicious it's going to be. Our batter contains only eggs from the market, Weisenberger white and wheat flours, Kentucky produced whole milk, water, canola oil, sugar and salt. Our sweet crêpe fillings include honey and jam from Farmers' Market vendors, and the butter and sugar crêpes are made with homemade butter from the market. We also make a hearty breakfast crêpe with market eggs, cheese and vegetables. Our menu will vary as other fruits, berries and vegetables come into season.
La Petite Crêperie will be open most Saturdays at Cheapside from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm. and most Sundays at Southland from 10:00 until 2:00. You can visit our website, www.petitecreperie.com to find out exactly where we will be and when. Bon appétit!

Boone Creek Creamery
Handmade Artisan Cheese
This week we will have a limited supply of fresh Mozzarella. It sold out by 9:30 last week, so stop by early. On Labor Day weekend, you can hand stretch your own Mozzarella at the Market, so come join in the fun.
Boone Creek Creamery specializes in Old World cheeses that are often difficult to find - wonderful cheeses like Lancashire, Rhapsody En Bleu, Cheshire, Wensleydale, Pyrenees, Cantal, or Beaufort. Of course we've added our own touch to create some new classics like our Ginger Rhapsody, Tuscan Sun, Abbey Road, Wildcat Blue, and our exclusive Coffee Gouda.
You won't see hydraulic presses and fancy modern equipment in our micro-creamery. Instead, we make our cheeses by hand using traditional European techniques to protect the delicate curds. This is a lot more work and very time consuming, but we believe it creates better cheeses with rich complex flavors. We hope you agree.
Our cheese is made from all natural JD Country Milk, a family owned Mennonite dairy farm in Logan County. The cows are pasture grazed and never given any antibiotics or hormones. Instead they are fed a vitamin enriched diet and all the grass they can eat. The milk is not homogenized and is pasteurized at just 145 degrees, then quickly cooled to preserve the natural flavor and enzymes that Mother Nature intended. We think the milk tastes better because the cows are happy.
We also offer cheese making classes, supplies, and equipment. For details, call or visit our website.
