Let Your Challenges Be Your Stepping Stones

I am wishing everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous 2011!  I also want to thank everyone for your support of the newsletter and for everyone who has contributed to its success.

I am grateful to have made it through another year. The New Year for many is an opportunity to make resolutions and to say goodbye to old habits and incorporate new ones.  Personally, I have stepped in to 2011 embracing my growing pains from this past year. I won't make any resolutions, only a promise to myself, to be the best person that I can be one day at a time.  The growing pains have been reminders for me that the way I have chosen to do some things didn't work and now is a good time to try something different.  I truly believe that if you are unwilling to get the lesson at hand, you are doomed to repeat it. Many times, we must continue doing things over and over, until we get it.

I would like to say that the things that I may have thought I failed at are really stepping stones into the New Year.  Regret is useless energy. It is clear to me that all that I have been through is and was necessary to bring me this far.  What didn't kill me has made me stronger because I am still standing by God's grace.

My message to everyone for this New Year is to embrace and acknowledge your past challenges, which are now triumphs. Know in your hearts that God is not done with any of us yet, we are still here.  The year 2010, for many came with unemployment, financial and health challenges, but you somehow got through it. Give God thanks, keep your faith and be the best that you can be.  If you carry those three things with you in to this New Year, you just can't lose!

Peace and Blessings!

Renew Your Committment to Christ
Author, Temiika D. Gipson

Temikka Gipson
Temiika D. Gipson

At the beginning of each New Year, most of us reflect on the past and make commitments to change our lifestyles. Many will make resolutions to refrain from bad habits, lose weight, continue their education or even make decisions to become better stewards of their finances. I've made many New Year's resolutions in the past but only to find myself less zealous in those goals by mid year.

Things occur in life that occasionally takes us on an unexpected pathway and on that road we discover that it takes endurance and a tenacious determination to complete the tasks at hand. Often times, when things aren't going as well as we hoped for, we lose interest in the very thing that we've invested time and effort in. Soon after, discouragement knocks on the door of our hearts and thereafter, we are no longer excited to accomplish those goals. We end up in retreat to the cycles of consistently making plans that never see the end results.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

Definitions of Delight: A high degree of gratification; extreme satisfaction; something that gives great pleasure or to take great pleasure in; to give keen enjoyment; to please greatly

This New Year, I challenge you to renew your commitment to Christ. Each day holds incredible discoveries of why we exist.  As your relationship is strengthened with Him through prayer, you will have a peace that surpasses all understanding that will guard your heart and mind. ( Philippians 4:6-7) Prayer will help you to stay on the proper pathway. The more you communicate with God, the more you become enlighten with knowledge of your purpose.

As you have that inward desire to please God greatly, "He will give you the desires of your heart."

If you find yourself stuck in a holding place, or weary in your well doing, He promises us in His word to strengthen you and make you resilience to the trials of life. 1 Peter 5:10 states, And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. Aren't you glad that God will carefully watch over you during your times of trouble, step into your circumstances, and will not let you miss out on that which He has purposed for you? God is not a covenant breaker nor will He make promises that He can't fulfill!

Renew your commitment to Christ.

Inspirational Quotes for the New Year

"Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!"

~William Arthur Ward

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."
~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

"Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."
~Oprah Winfrey

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each New Year find you a better man.
~Benjamin Franklin

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
~T.S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"

New Year, New You

Habbukuk2: 2 ~ Then the Lord replied: Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. NIV

Each year, I hear about promises being made to lose weight, get in shape, pay off credit cards, show more love, be kinder to others, quit
smoking, drinking and the list goes on and on........

When people ask me what my New Year resolutions are, I can only say I don't make resolutions.  A year consists of 365 days, and I can barely keep to what I resolve to do day by day. Many times I have missed the mark, although having good intentions to do what I tell others I am going to do. I have learned through trial and error that I am not a keeper of myself and when I depend on me, I fail time and time again. If more people will realize that making resolutions while leaving the small day to day things neglected,  is what God is watching.

I am reminded of God's word to write the vision~ or the revelation. I have to ponder whose vision we are seeking to fulfill? I believe that if we can be more Christ minded, we wouldn't try to do things that majority of the time is self-seeking and temporary.  God has provided us a manual on how to achieve victory in losing weight, paying off creditors, showing more love, and being kind to others. Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth can bring forth everlasting changes.

When we make promises, or say that we are going to do this and do that in our own strength, we tend to see that each year we are receiving the same results as the time before.  At the end of the day, we can pull out those lists and still see something there left undone, and when another 365 days have passed by, we still same those same issues on our lists.  I am a firm believer that if you do the same things, you will reap the same results. Why not do a new things and put your trust in God who can and will show you the way to be victorious in everyday living through His word? When we trust in God to make provision for His vision we can refrain from writing lists and promising things that will not be fulfilled.  When we are truly ready to make a change, with pure motives, we will then see that we cannot do it ourselves, but must see the bigger picture in why we need to rid ourselves in things that have strongholds in our lives. Our purpose here is to serve God. Trust God and He will direct your paths into all truth and victory.

Grace and Peace,

SPOTLIGHT ON COMMUNITY LEADERS
Denise Bethune
Denise Bethune
Denise Bethune

My name is Denise Bethune (NeCe to my friends and family). Born and raised in Whitesboro, New Jersey along with eight brothers, and three sisters, who without a doubt taught me more than they realize, our Mom who even today encourages us to look beyond what is so apparent, but rely on things yet unseen. Being a single mom of one son, who now has two children, it is our responsibility to ensure that we plant seeds that will harvest new and plentiful fruits in every area of their lives and to be better stewards when it comes to their well-being (our children).

I completed my formative years of education in Cape May County and just earned my Bachelor's of Science in Business/Public Administration, currently working towards my Master of Public Policy.  I chose Public Administration mainly for the opportunity in addressing policies and or programs with new solutions, identifying organizations/individuals who truly are striving for excellence in what they have to offer for our communities. Our children and families should have access to resources that truly offer options in long-term success, P.E.A.S Magazine does just that along with featuring children (first priority) who are missing, contact information for law enforcement agencies.  Each month children who are missing, some for decades, will get the expose that is so deserving, especially in the Black community (minority communities) do not get as much exposure, not sure why this is the case, there is no time to figure this out either.  P.E.A.S Magazine is a direct collaboration with Peas In Their Pods organization, founded by Janice Lowery, who was called upon to bring awareness and to help families with their loss.

Business wise I'm staying optimistic about showcasing my community and the wealth of resources available through education, employment, mentorship, products and services, it's critical to our community, recycling dollars, information back into our own front.  If SHOWCASE  Mag/Dir..Inc, can be an avenue for future entrepreneurs whether it be for profit or non, or a step-up to what is already in place then everyone that is featured can be a model of what is still possible and the steps necessary to achieve such.
