Plant Your Own Garden
Sharon R. Wells

There was a time when I looked for relationships to make me happy. When the relationships ended, I felt empty and lonely.  I didn't know how to spend quality time by myself or just how to be happy.  I realized that I needed to look within to find what I was in search of.  Someone once told me, "Don't wait for someone to plant you a rose garden, plant your own".  I knew that meant that I had to find my own happiness.

On a quest to find things that were fulfilling and meaningful, I discovered the things that I liked doing. I enjoy watching corny love stories with happy endings and reading books that take me to another place. I also tapped in to my creative side and discovered that I am good at making jewelry, interior decorating and writing.  Being responsible for my own happiness helped me to build my self esteem and self confidence.  Today, my garden is full of beautiful flowers that bloom and grow as I continue to nurture myself.  We are masterpieces created by God equipped with every tool that we need to grow our own perfect gardens!

Our article this month is, "Celebrate Me" written by author, Paulette Harper Johnson.  Paulette delivers a powerful message on celebrating yourself and being free to be the magnificent woman that you are!  Paulette is also the author of the inspirational book, "Completely Whole" that's featured this month.

"I will confess and praise You for You are fearful and wonderful and for the awful wonder of my birth! Wonderful are Your works, and that my inner self knows right well." (Psalms 139:14 AMP)

I'm celebrating me, because I've come to know that I'm all right-regardless of what you think about me, or how you feel towards me. I celebrate that I am a whole person, spirit, soul, and body. I am who I am because of what God has declared about me. I'm celebrating the woman God has designed, destined and called me to be. My celebration continues even if you don't want to rejoice with me. I recognize that the celebration only needs a selected number of people. These people will celebrate my freedom, my achievements and my progress, because they are not intimated by my success.

I'm celebrating my freedom. I'm free from the bondage, and the oppression of others. People that are not liberated tend to want to harness others that are progressing, and moving forward. My celebration comes from years of strugglestruggling with self and the image within. The picture I see now is not the same one I saw years ago.

I realize I have issues, and God is still dealing with me about them; however, my issues will never prohibit me from loving the person I've become.  I'm celebrating the freedom in my mind. I'm free to be who I am and do what it is I am created to do. What you expect me to give, I cannot.  Giving you the world will not cause you to accept me for who I am. I must be happy, content and satisfied with me. As I look in the mirror, the person I see is one who has come to terms with her person, character, and spirit.  I change on my terms, and my terms only. Embrace my freedom. Come along and ride with me, if you desire. Celebrate my existence, because celebrating meis celebrating the God in me.

I encourage you to step out on faith and be determined that you are going to be all that God has called you to be. Don't procrastinate; don't make up any more excuses because of what others may have said about you. Celebrate that you are unique, beautiful and most importantly God's chosen daughters.

"Completely Whole "
Author, Paulette Harper Johnson
Completely Whole Book Cover

Distractions are designed to derail us, to sidetrack us, and to redirect our attention-ultimately causing us to miss our mark.  Distractions can create the illusion of being important issues, but in reality they aren'tthey're merely illusions. A distraction can be anything from a previous issue resurfacing to perhaps an old boyfriend, girlfriend or business acquaintance fighting to recapture your focus. Have you ever experienced a former acquaintance calling you from out of nowhere? These kinds of distractions can trigger an emotional imbalance, causing you to entertain thoughts that are far from the truth. Distractions will take your focus from what God is doing, causing confusion.

"Love Honor Or Stray"
Author, E.N. Joy

Love Honor or Stray
Now that Deborah has finally let go of the past that haunted her for so many years, is she ready to grab hold of love? The handsome Lynox Chase certainly hopes so, as he tries everything to win Deborah's heart. Even though she believes in her heart that Lynox is the husband God has for her, there still seems to be a barrier separating the two.

The ringing of the wedding bells between Paige and Blake can still be heard echoing, but will the roar of temptation rear its ugly head when Paige begins to find comfort in the least-expected old friend?

Just when Tamarra manages to put out one fire, yet another one sparks. When a relative of the person who committed an unspeakable act against Tamarra tries to strike up a relationship with her, what really strikes up is the largest blaze imaginable. Tamarra doesn't even have faith that God can get this one under control.

Love, Honor or Stray is the most compelling book of the New Day Divas Series yet!

How Ya Like Me Now! - Author, Leslie Morris

How Ya Like Me Now!
How Ya Like Me Now! is an inspirational autobiography by Leslie Morris, who overcame a troubled childhood and adolescence and defied the predictions of her societal demise. Morris, who grew up in one of Long Branch's Housing Projects, went on to earn an undergraduate degree, with honors, from prestigious Simmons College and Master's Degrees from Boston College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While her book focuses primarily on her childhood and adolescence, she also touches on what she's done since leaving Long Branch to help other troubled adolescents. Moreover, Morris' autobiography expands on not only her personal life experiences, but also explains how black people came to Long Branch and offers insight into their virtually untold history. Poetry Spotlight

  Sitting on a Park Bench

I was sitting in the park one summer day,
Taking notice of nature and people around me.
I noticed a little boy climbing the monkey bars.
While his mother watched with concern.
But she didn't hold on to him.
She grew a smile as he climbed higher.

I took notice of a couple arguing.
Tears were rolling down her face.
As her boyfriend walked away,
She stood there motionless.
And smiled with her watery eyes.

I watched an elderly couple walking pass me.
They walked with canes and seemed crippled.
But they were laughing and carrying on.

I can't control what is going on around me,
But I can never let that interfere,
From me being happy.
