AVIDYNE CORP. introduced the IFD440 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM system with Hybrid Touch user interface, adding to its full line of  plug-and-play avionics.
 
DUNCAN AVIATION announced plans for a new business aircraft maintenance hangar and facility to be built at its Lincoln, Neb., headquarters during an open-house ceremony for a new 45,000-square-foot paint shop that the company completed this spring.

JEPPESEN has teamed with Dubai-based Emirates Aviation College, the academic wing of Emirates, to offer the first Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA)-licensed pilot training program in the UAE. The first class of ab initio cadets began the 16-month program with ground school and theory training in March 2012, as the first step toward earning an airline transport pilot license (ATPL) or a commercial pilot license with single-engine and multi-engine instrument ratings.

MID-CONTINENT INSTRUMENT COMPANY INC. announced it has further strengthened its True Blue Power division by signing a distribution and supply agreement with A123 Systems Inc. by which Mid-Continent will offer A123's advanced Nanophosphate lithium-ion battery technology for aviation applications.
 
WEST STAR AVIATION's Spirit of St. Louis location is now offering night and weekend hours for its customers. In addition to its regular Monday through Friday hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., it will now offer evening hours Wednesday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. In addition, West Star SUS will be open for service Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

General Aviation: A State-by-State Economic Impact Survey

 

The Alliance for Aviation Across America launched a wide-scale economic impact survey to outline the benefit of general aviation on businesses, local economies and communities around the nation. AEA Wired will highlight a different state each issue:

Jobs: 37,600

Econ. Impact: $2.9 billion

Per Capita: $595

 

Note: Minnesota is home to aircraft manufacturer Cirrus Design.

General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in 2009, to inform members and staff about the importance of GA to the nation's economy and transportation system. To date, 185 members of the U.S. Congress have signed on to the General Aviation Caucus. Click below to see if your elected representative is a member. The second of three webinars designed to educate AEA member businesses on the scope of the Federal Aviation Administration's proposed rewrite of Part 145 is scheduled for Monday, July 16, at 5 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. CDT. U.S. Airport and Airway Trust Fund Update 
Created by the Airport and Airway Revenue Act of 1970, the Airport and Airway Trust Fund provides funding for capital improvements to the U.S. airport and airways system. The Aircraft Electronics Association, along with nearly all general aviation associations and groups, strongly support the AATF to fund the nation's aviation system. At the beginning of the 2012 fiscal year, the Trust Fund had a cash balance of $10.3 billion. The Treasury Department's Bureau of the Public Debt prepares monthly income statements on Trust Fund revenues; these statements reflect monthly allocations of estimated excise tax payments to the Trust Fund. Transport Canada Issues Regulations for Equipage of Aircraft with Terrain Awareness Warning Systems
On July 4, 2012, Transport Canada Civil Aviation issued amendments to the Canadian Aviation Regulations for equipage of aircraft with a terrain awareness warning system.
