July Testimonial
| I originally began seeing the doctors at Back In Health Wellness Center for a back injury when, at one appointment, I mentioned having a headache. I explained that since I had experienced them for years, I assumed I would have to live with them, especially after seeing numerous specialists with few results.
I began acupuncture sessions twice a week and as the pain lessened in severity and frequency, we decreased visits to once a week then every other week and so on.
I've been so impressed with my results and the kindness and professionalism from the entire staff, I recommend Back In Health Wellness Center to all of my friends and family...and even a few strangers!

Treats For Troops
Celebrating our nation's independence Sunday got us thinking about how we could do something for our troops serving overseas. The average soldier has about 50 pounds of gear he or she carries around each day and because we can't ship one of our adjustments, therapeutic massages or even an acupuncture treatment, we came up with the idea of sending a little bit of 'portable' relief: Biofreeze.
We made a call to one of our suppliers and after explaining what we wanted to do, they agreed to honor a discounted price on top of their wholesale rate for cases of Biofreeze. We're asking everyone who stops in to donate any amount of pocket change - at the end of the month, Back In Health Wellness Center will match whatever has been donated to purchase as much Biofreeze as possible.
We're working with Wesley Chapel's Treats For Troops which works with several organizations and regularly sends care packages to the brave men and women protecting our freedom.

Scoliosis Diagnosis & Care
The National Scoliosis Foundation
estimates 6 million people in the United States are affected by a curvature of
the spine and each year, at least 30,000 children are fit with a brace to
correct scoliosis while another 38,000 undergo corrective surgery.
Dr. Carrie Oleston and Dr. Cindy
Perkins not only
diagnose cases of scoliosis, but often encounter adult patients with varying
degrees of spinal curvatures who went undiagnosed
as children.
"Many schools conduct their own
scoliosis checks throughout the school year, but the effectiveness of the exam really
depends on the skill level of the health care provider performing the tests,
and unfortunately, most of the time, these screenings can miss the mildest of
cases which can still affect a person the rest of their life," cautions Dr.
Oleston.
An x-ray will determine the
presence of scoliosis, and when diagnosing a patient, Drs. Oleston and Perkins will
observe a child's gait, look for uneven musculature of the back or any un-leveling
of the pelvis or hips, check for any prominent ribs or shoulder blades and in spect
the spine for any damage, curvature, rotation or misalignment.
"A small percentage of the
population is diagnosed with scoliosis as a result of a de-formation of the
spine while in the womb or by having an association with a neuromuscular
disorder such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy," Dr. Oleston explains. "However, the remaining 85% of all
cases are considered 'Idiopathic,' which has no known cause and generally develops
during adolescence."
Idiopathic scoliosis becomes more
readily detectable in children between 10-15 years of age with girls eight
times more likely than boys to develop a curvature progressing to the point
where some type of treatment is required. Both early awareness and an
official diagnosis are key to determining appropriate and timely treatment to
slow or prevent the progression of the curvature. "Options to remedy the alignment really depend on the
severity of the curvature, the person's age and the spine's curve pattern," says
Dr. Oleston.
If detected and diagnosed in its
early stages, scoliosis can be managed utilizing Chiropractic Manipulative
Therapy, Physio-therapies as well as with therapeutic exercises. "We find patients respond well with spinal
stabilization exercises which work to keep the muscles of the spine strong and
balanced."
Besides reaping the all-over health
benefits, Dr. Oleston also advises regular exercise, such as swimming, which
uses the whole body, as a great way to maintain proper balance of the musculoskeletal
system.

and acupuncture, as well as utilize an array of treatment options including massage
therapy, physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation and nutrition.
Dr. Carrie Oleston, DC
and Dr. Cindy Perkins, DC, MBA, founded Back In Health Wellness Center in 2007,
however both discovered, at a young age, the benefits individualized
chiropractic care can offer.
A painful track injury
in high school left Dr. Perkins sidelined and unable to perform, and while Dr. Oleston
initially sought a career in traditional medicine, she altered her focus after
receiving chiropractic care for shin splints and runner's knee during college.
