Greetings!

Summer is slowly losing its grip and I can sense fall is waiting just around the corner.  Kids are back in school, the unmistakable glow of Friday night football stadium lights hover over the evening skies and just yesterday a small hint of coolness was in the air.  Now I know that summer can be a cruel temptress and she can turn up the heat at will, but I know that fall will prevail!  I can't wait!

We have a special treat for you this month.  We are featuring one of our homes that was completed just a few weeks ago out near Marble Falls.  It was designed to be a gathering space where our client's family could gather for long weekends on the lake, holidays and special family events.  We are very pleased with the work of the builder and with the sensibilities of the owner.  They have created a wonderful retreat for their entire family.  What a blessing for them and us!

I hope you enjoy this small glimpse into the work we do.  We have the greatest job in the world and when it all comes together it is a beautiful thing.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Regards,

Take a Closer Look at ...
Recent Projects

Among the requests from April's survey
was to feature a project or two telling their story and sharing a few photos. So this month take a little trip down memory lane with us as we look back at a one of our favorite projects.

Homeowner Connie Slocomb writes "our wish was to create a place for our family and friends to gather and enjoy the lake and each other.  We wanted a great room, a kitchen and enough bedrooms to handle everyone.  Bryant and his staff listened to what we asked and developed a plan very quickly that achieved this goal.  Bryant took our original concept and identified it as a 'Hill County Craftsman' style.  He carried this style out throughout the entire house and he hit it right on the nose.  We are very, very pleased with the concept, the execution of the plan and the final product.

Bryant spent time in situating the structure of the house on the existing lot to take advantage of the fabulous view of lake and the surrounding rock bluffs.  He understood that we wanted the house to look like it belonged to the site.

Our favorite room?  John says that his is the back porch off the great room. The view is fantastic and he is pleased that the porch is so deep.  He says the cove is his favorite place ever, so this porch puts him in the middle of his favorite place.  I like it all, especially the master bathroom.

Our builder, Raymond Hall with Ratliff Homes in Marble Falls was great and did an amazing job with the details.  He didn't let anything get by him and since we were absent home builders this was very important.  I have to give him a lot of credit."

Design Tip of the Month!

Think outside the boxy layout. Walk into a room as if seeing it for the first time. Let your furniture placement reflect your creativity and lifestyle.

- Avoid the moustache furniture layout. Unless you're practicing ballroom dancing, pull your pieces away from the walls.
- Design on the diagonal. Angle the rug, sofas and other furnishings. This not only give the room interest, but opens up the room to a more light and airy feel.
- You don't have to match and mirror. Arranging furniture asymmetrically will achieve a more casual look.
- Multi-task the room. Add interest by dividing the room into seating areas. Not every piece need rotate around a central coffee table. Think about conversation areas. Your room will appear more intimate, personal and social.
- Experiment with unconventional uses and placement for furniture. Moving your furniture is the least expensive way to give the room a totally new look.

We've started a marketing campaign to recruit some fresh faces to J. Bryant Boyd, Architect. We have been fortunate to work with some of the finest builders in the industry. But as the years have progressed, we have lost a few
