Dear BBB Accredited Business,

Welcome to the final BBB Bulletin of 2011.  As we make our way through this season of the year, we oftentimes find ourselves caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. The BBB encourages you to be vigilant and not to let your guard down.     
 
In the last month the BBB was the target of an email misusing the BBB name and contacting companies regarding supposed complaints against them. These emails are fraudulent and contain potential harmful links. If you receive one of these emails please forward it to the Council of BBB's at phishing@council.bbb.org. If you have any questions regarding an email from the BBB please contact our office.  
 
Check out our Top Five Holiday Scams to keep yourself, your business and your consumers safe this holiday. With many people traveling during this season we offer you tips to try and keep you safe and stress free. 
 
With Santa Clause at the center of the holidays, the BBB encourages you to Start With Trust, even when dealing with Santa Claus.  We offer parents, grandparents, and caregivers tips on finding legitimate Santa sites.  
 
As the holiday season ends, we often find ourselves with gifts that we can't use, maybe don't fit or just aren't for us. For those instances we bring you tips on how to handle holiday returns/exchanges.  
 
Remember, if you should need to check company reliability reports during the holidays please go to
www.bbb.org. If you are shopping and are away from your computer, you can use your smartphone and the new BBB App to check out a company.

It is unfortunate that many don't take a few minutes to read return and exchange policies before buying. People too often assume they can return purchases when in reality they cannot. Not every retailer has the same policy and some even implement separate policies around special sales and holidays.

Consumers who let down their guard during the hectic holiday season can easily fall prey to scammers poised to pounce on careless or overburdened shoppers, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns.

BBB Tips: Avoiding the Holiday Travel Headache

The holidays are a time of cheer, but they can also be a time for battling traffic and bad weather on the road. Staying safe should be a top priority for all travelers so Better Business Bureau recommends taking a few precautions when hitting the road this holiday.
 
 
BBB and WVUE-TV FOX 8 Present the "Heart of New Orleans" Campaign
