Thanksgiving is upon us and we would like to take this opportunity to "Give Thanks" to all of our Accredited Businesses. We are always thankful for your continued support and your voluntary participation in the Better Business Bureau.

 

As the busiest retail shopping season is upon us, we have dedicated this issue to sharing key principles in shopping both in stores and online. Since businesses are consumers themselves and are made up of consumers we encourage you to share these articles with your employees, family & friends so that everyone can achieve happy holiday shopping.

 

We also share information on merchant processing services. Since this is something that most businesses deal with every day we offer tips on selecting the right company for your business.

BBB Tips: Be a Smart Shopper This Holiday Season

The BBB offers these 5 tips when making purchases this holiday season

 

  • BE SURE of the price you pay. Prices may fluctuate during the holiday season. Don't be upset when you find a better price after you buy. Checking out prices ahead of time allows you to be confident when you buy.
  • BE SURE of the company's return or exchange policy. Policies are different from store to store. One may have a strict "NO refunds or exchanges" while another may have a much more forgiving policy.  
  • BE SURE to understand all terms when buyin gift cards including any stipulations as to when and how they can be used, expiration dates, and penalties for non-use.  Watch this video for tips on purchasing gift cards. 
  • BE SURE to understand any terms of a layaway program beforehand, if you choose to use one.
  • BE SURE of the trustworthiness of your online retailer. Use the company's name or web address to check BBB.org for a reliability report. If you feel uneasy, attempt to contact the company beforehand by phone or e-mail. If you have trouble beforehand, you may have similar trouble if a problem arises afterward.
