Dear BBB Accredited Business,

August brings up the 6th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and in that time, we've seen a significant shift in our marketplace. This month, we offer a look into how the landscape has changed in regards to contractor complaints since the storms. We also want consumers and contractors to be aware of a name game scam that has been going on since Katrina, where an out-of-town contractor attempts to capitalize on the good name of a longstanding, local contractor. 

Also, as we prepare to send kids back to school or college, we present some tips on  back-to-school sale buying, purchasing online, and deciding on a college-bound student's first credit card. And, in our last article, we could all use some advice on stretching our gas dollars.

FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association  & BBB Prepare To Host
Scam Jam 2011

The FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association and the BBB are doing their part to educate citizens and prevent identity theft, scams, and fraud, by hosting Scam Jam 2011. It is free and open to the public, and will be held at the Pontchartrain Center, in Kenner, LA on Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Representatives from various law enforcement agencies as well as the BBB and other exhibitors will be on hand to answer questions, and there will be presentations throughout the day.
