Just as occurred following the tsunami in 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the earthquake in Haiti just last year - fraudulent charities will likely emerge to try and scam donations from well-meaning Americans. BBB Wise Giving Alliance urges givers to make sure their donations will go to legitimate and reputable charities and relief efforts that have the capability to help those in need.  Check out national charities at: www.give.org.

Recently, the BBB serving Southeast Louisiana collaborated with WGNO ABC-26 reporter Curt Sprang, to bring the public information on a local used car dealership that has been taking down payments for cars, and keeping the down payment when financing could not be obtained.

Almost everybody has received some form of a chain letter of some kind. The BBB serving Southeast Louisiana has received several recently from consumers concerned about these offers. The main thing to remember is that if the chain letter involves money or valuable items and promises big returns, it is illegal to start or to participate.
