Dear BBB Accredited Business,
Welcome to the final BBB Bulletin of 2010. As we make our way through this season of the year, we oftentimes find ourselves caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. The BBB encourages you to be vigilant and not to let your guard down. In two articles below, we encourage you to be aware of 5 general scams that turn up during the holidays. The other examines how some retailers can increase your cost by requiring separate shipping and handling fees, and also points out how to identify a e-mail scam that proposes to come from different shipping companies.
Should you find yourself with a gift that needs returning, or if you anticipate that a gift you give may need to be returned, we have a holiday version of an article that we presented earlier this year about refunds and exchanges with some holiday tips thrown in.
Finally, the BBB encourages you to Start With Trust, even when dealing with Santa Claus. When allowing your child to write a letter to Santa, on several of the websites which allow that service, parents should check the website first, determining exactly what is being collected, who is receiving this information, and what are they doing with it. This timely tip is useful anytime you (or your children) input personal information into a website.
Remember, if you should need to check company reliability reports during the holidays please go to www.bbb.org. If you are shopping and are away from your computer, you can use your smartphone to get reports on companies at: m.bbb.org.
We thank you for your support of the Better Business Bureau, and wish you a wonderful holiday and a prosperous new year.

Check Privacy Policy of "Dear Santa" Websites
More than 60 domain names have been registered in the name of Santa Claus, offering children a wide range of opportunities to e-mail St. Nick. But before allowing children to share personal information with a "Letter to Santa" website, be sure to determine just what is being collected, who is requesting the information, how it will be used and whether it will be shared with third parties.

Beware of Misleading Shipping and Handling Fees And Fraudulent Shipping Schemes This Shopping Season
If you are planning to buy gifts online or from infomercials on television, BBB has a warning about the way some retailers make money on your orders by charging separate shipping and handling fees. And regardless of where you order from, BBB cautions that shipping service phishing scams are intended to steal your identity or infect your computer.
