Dear BBB Accredited Business,

We have always found that two of the greatest motivating factors are greed and fear. While it is commonplace at the BBB to see scams that prey on the greed motivator, the articles in this issue of the Bulletin relate to motivation from fear.

With the changes to health care nationally, there will undoubtedly be scammers that attempt to prey on the uncertainty that will occur. Also, people who have trouble keeping up with their mortgages or home loans may be inclined to listen to home loan modification scams that make promises to protect your home and finances.  Both of these issues have been addressed in this month's BBB Bulletin.

This month, we also want to alert consumers to a company that is soliciting business in our area that is NOT a BBB Accredited Business although their signage says they are.  The BBB tagline is "Start with Trust," but always check on bbb.org to find out if the company is worthy of your trust.

Scammers Hawk Phony Health Plans
health careThe ink is barely dry on the new federal health insurance law, but scam artists already are using it to peddle phony health policies, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns. Here are two examples of common instances of scams using the confusion from new health care policies to profit from consumers.

Beware of Home Loan Modification Scams

BBB cautions local consumers about Pinnacle Security

pinnacleThe BBB serving Southeast Louisiana was recently alerted about a security company that is soliciting customers in the area. It appears that Pinnacle Security (out of Orem, Utah) is falsely implying BBB Accreditation.
