Meet KHC's New Program Officer
The Kansas Humanities Council welcomes new program officer, Leslie Von Holten. As program officer, Leslie coordinates KHC's existing programs, including Speakers Bureau, Talk About Literature in Kansas, and FLIKS, but she will also help guide KHC in finding new ways to support the humanities in Kansas.
A native of Wellsville, Kansas, Leslie credits a a three-year excursion to Baumholder, Germany, during her middle-school years with deepening her appreciation of her home state. "It's funny," Leslie said, "but Germany is where I fell in love with Kansas. Not only because my family missed home, but also because I found myself promoting Kansas culture and fighting stereotypes. When we returned to Kansas, I was keen on sending my German friends flyers and mixed tapes from punk, hip hop, and art shows to prove to them how vibrant contemporary Kansas culture is. I'm still committed to grassroots, community-level culture, which is why I'm thrilled to be part of the KHC team."
Leslie is a graduate of the University of Kansas with degrees in art history and English literature. Prior to coming to KHC, Leslie was the program coordinator for the Center for East Asian Stuides and the Center for Global and International Studies at the University of Kansas. She lives in Lawrence with her husband, Tim, and their two children, Atticus and Beatrice.
