Nearly a century ago, Dodge City became home to one of the most famous motorcycle racing venues in the world. From 1914 through the 1950s, the Dodge City 300 race attracted scores of competitors and spectators to southwest Kansas. The motorcycle race also had a significant social and economic impact on the community. As the Dodge City 300's 100th anniversary approaches, a new exhibition and series of events hopes to recapture Dodge City's place in motorcycle racing history. The Dodge City Area Arts Council presents the "Interactive History of Motorcycle Racing in Dodge City" May 4-May 30. Featured in the exhibition are antique motorcycles, photos, memorabilia, and film footage of past races. Jim Sherer presents "Myths & Truths of the Racing World: How the Races Impacted Dodge City" on May 12. On May 24, Dale Walksler presents the history of a 1929 Harley Davidson motorcycle that raced in Dodge City. More information about the exhibition and events can be found here.
"Interactive History of Motorcycle Racing in Dodge City" is supported by a KHC Humanities grant.
