KHC Announces Staff Retirement

Deborah Pomeroy
Deborah K. Pomeroy

After 26 years and over 11,900 programs, Deborah K. Pomeroy, KHC Resource Center Coordinator, will retire from the Kansas Humanities Council on May 31, 2012.

Deborah became KHC's first Resource Center Coordinator when the position was created in 1985. "At the time I took the position, the Resource Center consisted of 16 mm films, audiocassettes, and exhibits with only ten scholars in the first Speakers Bureau," she recalled. "Today we have 100 presenters and discussion leaders active with Speakers Bureau, Talk About Literature in Kansas book discussions, and FLIKS film discussions."

In addition to her Resource Center duties, Deborah also served as coordinator for Chautauqua, organizing the traveling festival of learning across Kansas. "Traveling the roads for Chautauqua is near and dear to my heart," she shared. "This historical program gave me an opportunity to 'live' in 38 communities. I love being a native Kansan!"

"KHC appreciates Deborah's dedication to the humanities in Kansas over the past 26 years," said Executive Director Julie Mulvihill. "We will miss Deborah and wish her all the best in her retirement."

Deborah's plans for the future include renovating and moving into an historic family home, traveling with her grandchildren, creating a dream "bucket" list, and organizing 30 plus years of photos.
