Chinese Film Festival Begins March 24

Piano in the Factory Trailer
Piano in the Factory Trailer

In Piano in the Factory, a 2010 Chinese film, an out-of-work steel worker fights for the custody of his piano-loving daughter by building his own piano in an abandoned factory. What sacrifices will parents make for their children? How does the film's portrayal of abandoned factory buildings and unemployed workers relate to China's economy? These questions will be explored on March 24 at the Kansas City Chinese Film Festival in Overland Park.

Through film screenings and bilingual humanities discussions in English and Mandarin, the Kansas City Chinese Film Festival explores the cultural, historical, and social issues raised by contemporary Chinese Films.

Screenings take place on Saturdays, March 24, March 31, and April 7 at the Glenwood Arts Theatre in Overland Park. The festival is sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Kansas with the support of a KHC Mini Grant.
