Tips to Help Diverse Associates Succeed

For more tips, read the full article.

The New Face for Law Firm Diversity

Many legal organizations have realized  that simply focusing on headcounts does not equate to diversity. A Legal Management article discusses the difference between encouraging diversity and executing a diversity and inclusiveness plan with top down priority. Examples of innovative firm initiatives  include: incorporating diversity into attorney and partner evaluation and compensation, treating time spent on diversity as part of billable hours, and encouraging employees to build or enhance a practice based on their backgrounds. These firms are incorporating many of the recommended practices in CCIE's 6-step inclusiveness manual, available at www.legalinclusiveness.org.

Yslas, General Counsel for Northrop Grumman Corp. and author of a recent article in The National Law Journal. Yslas encourages law firms to improve retention and promotion. He calls upon corporate counsel to recruit diverse candidates for their law departments and to make clear to law firms that diversity is a core value. Read the full article.
